I get a lot of Black Fridays specials mailed out to me from the USA. I can't believe prices, they are selling stripped AR-15 uppers for 30.00, and 416R Stainless steel barrels 16" long for 49.95, complete bolt and bcg for 59.99

Will any companies actually mail those parts to canada? I know brownells doesn but you gotta toss them like an extra 250 bones or something

we get screwed on EVERYTHING in this country even when we were on par with the us$ Canadian prices were still at least 30% higher then us prices

which is why I order everything I can (gun stuff from exporter) from the us I'm sick of getting screwed

That should give you an idea about the profit margins in the industry :)

A lot of that stuff is mass produced commercial and overruns. The expected Hillary Clinton win didn’t happen. These deals will dry up unless barn spec becomes the trend for commercial sales. Look at PSA as an example.

A Ruger Precision Rifle at Cabela's in Canada is $1799.99. A Ruger Precision Rifle at Cabela's in the U.S. is $1499.99 usd ($1905 CND based on today's exchange rate) You might want to reevaluate your money saving tactics.

OK, but that same rifle is frequently available at $1200 US at stores that actually have decent prices (i.e. not Cabelas), and occasionally on sale as low as $750.

Brownells had the Aero Precision stripped lower for the equivalent of about $64 CAD until it sold out. The Black Friday "deal" I just got came out to $675 CAD before tax, regular US price on that same part converts to $501 CAD at any number of US retailers.

Black Friday in Canada is a joke - due to the differences in taxation, employment regulations, shipping costs, import duties etc., Black Friday in Canada isn't a Friday, it's 4:00pm on December 29th. That's when most retailers have paid all their bills for the year and start to make pure profit.

A couple things. 1) I picked Cabela's for the reason that it's the same company so it's as close as you're ever going to get to an apples to apples comparison regarding costs and prices. $1799.99 also isn't the street price of the RPR at most stores on this side of the imaginary line. 2) $1200 is still $1525 at the bank rate (that consumers can't get) and it doesn't take into account shipping or export fees. So even then, people selling it for $1600 in Canada is hardly out of line.

our deals it seems are vendors looking to give you 5% to 15% off. That's not a deal, hardly covers the taxes or shipping on items. That is why I use ##### or prophet river a lot.

I mostly agree with you when it comes to firearms or ammo. Regular store prices are pretty similar. There are even examples, like CZ pistols, where we get them cheaper here. I think the big difference is that US stores sometimes have major sale pricing, whereas like bobo says, here it's a huge (claimed) event if a store offers 10% off.

That's pretty easy to explain. Primarily because of ITAR, there are more hands in the soup getting a gun into the hands of a Canadian than there is the hands of an American. The retailer markup on guns and ammo is generally around 20%. 10% off might not be perceived as a great deal, but 10% off something that you're only making 20 points on is a substantial cut in revenue for a retailer.

Exactly.
