Well I am finally finished my USC-45 AR buffer tube mods! :D

Got a billet of 6061 T6 Aluminum, and used a hacksaw & files, and a sanding block (not to mention a digital micrometer) to shape it.

Used my friends drill press for the buffer tube hole, and had a friend of my dads (that is a machinist) use a CNC machine and a single point cutter to thread the hole.

The block is kind of neat, I used the original HK stock, and made 2 small aluminum blocks to fit inside the square holes below the buffer. They were drilled & tapped for 10-24 machine screws.

Then I made the blind buffer tube hole about 5/8ths into the block, and countersunk the heads to hold it tight.

I also re-enforced the pistol grip with layers of fibreglass cloth & glass-fibre bondo. Its quite solid now, as it flexed a bit before. As well as shaping the HECK out of the grip, so now its not all squared off at the tops. Its actually quite comfy now, although a little big (closer to my Mark23's grip circumference)

I used a high strength steel epoxy to join the aluminum block to the old stock. as well I used the same epoxy as thread locker for the screws. That thing is 1 solid piece now!

Now? for some pics!

Now, im waiting on getting a set of Dlask Arms aluminum rails for it. As you may see, I only have 2 rails on the front, I never got the third front picatinny rail.

Hopefully I'll get them this year :p

:D

fantastic job raptor and team.very unique. gonna mass produce?

haha, no way dude :p

I did work to the stock grip, it was just a fun project for myself.

Thanks though, I love how it turned out. I just need to wait till thursday next week till I can fondle it (the paint is still curing on the grip) :(

Forgive my ignorance, but is that considered restricted?

Oh, also;

- where do you live?
- do you believe in defending property with force?
- planning to be away from your home for a consderable amount of time any time soon?

Frickin' gorgeous, bud. Absolutely stunning. If it's non-restricted, I'd pay bucks for one...

Nah, the barrel is still less than 470mm long (16 inches, designed for the US market), so, désolé, but it is restricted.

Looks really nice, well done.

EDIT: Didn't notice someone already said it's restricted. Mea culpa.

thanks guys :D

No its not anodized, its actually just painted with an epoxy paint. Its pretty robust stuff. I basically put 4 coats of paint on as a bottom coat (after extreme de-greasing with flux stripper), and then the last 3 coats, I held the can about 18-24 inches away (compared to the recommended 8-10 inches) and this lets the paint particles dry on the outside. When they hit the 4th layer of paint (it needs to be a little tacky still, so timing is everything) they stick, but stay in little bumps, so it actually gives it a pretty decent matte texture with a glossy paint. need to experiment lots to get it right though ;)

Yes it is restricted, unfortunately I've only ever seen one USC with an 18.5" barrel. It sold in like 2 minutes on the EE here. Would be neat to have it non restricted though.

I've thought about getting a barrel made for it, since getting one from the USA would easily be over 1500 dollars.

250-500 for the barrel (8 inches) then it would need to be permanently extended via barrel extension or fake suppressor to 16 inches (to meet ATF standards.... another hundred bucks at least), After importing (Questar does that for 750 bucks) (assuming the US State Dept. would allow it) you'd need to remove the fake extension. Plus shipping costs and taxes...

Im not sure if that would be okay though. Since it was a factory made 8 inch barrel, the USA still considers "extensions" to be legitimate means of extending a barrel, however I know Canada does not. I don't know if it would be considered an 8 inch barrel, or a 16 when imported into Canada.

I dont know who would make barrels in Canada though.

The factory 8" barrels are just another item that we could get without much trouble if f**kING R. NICHOLS WEREN'T SUCH USELESS a**holeS.

That's a big plus one. Holy moley i'd drop 700 bucks on a factory barrel in no time flat.

In the USA, they're about 500-600 for a factory HK barrel IIRC.

So much money to be made, but they'de rather tell us peons to eat dirt :X

Nice work.

Now, the question is: did the number of man-hours it took to make this add up to less than the cost of a HERA Arms kit based off what you'd get paid in the same time? :D

I could hammer them out on the CNC mill like they weren't even there.

they are VERY simple blocks to make. it took maybe 2-3 hours of using a hacksaw and files to do it by hand. Maybe 30 seconds on a CNC? indluding the buffer tube hole.

The hard part is making the 2 small blocks that go in the inside to bolt into. They have to be bull-nosed since the inside has rounded corners, and then you need to make sure the drill holes are in the right place.

The other hard part, was cutting the back off the USC stock and getting it perfectly flat.

All in all.... MAYBE 10 hours of work for the WHOLE project. considering I get payed less than 15/hour right now, I'd say it was more than worth it :D

(im 22 BTW, so im still working my way up for jobs ;) )

And unfortunately no.... no 10 round pistol mags exist for this thing :(

I was thinking or taking some stock 10 round 1911 mags, or possibly some Sig 10-round mags, and designing some little plastic spacers like what HERA was gonna do with AR15 mags (to be used in the SL8)... a little cheap plastic spacer that snaps over the mags, and lets you use it in said rifle. It would lock into the Sig/1911 mag release, and then have a block at the end to use the USC's mag catch.

Since the HK plastic mags are quite thick, there would be room to do it.
