Used batteries and stack of pennies as shotgun slugs ?

its defaceing currancy and its a crime... they stoped useing copper in pennys because its cheaper to make with something else so you have to be careful..
Yea they are all copper coated steel now as it's more than a pennys worth of copper.
I found this out the hard way while wrapping pennies one weekend. I had a bucket full and decided it was easier to weigh 50 on a digital scale and roll em up by weight rather than count them. ("I am so smart SMRT!") I noticed that some rolls were bigger by up to 3 or less by 3 so ended up having to count them all. Took me 2 days to wrap them all and i was glad to finally get it done. Then my buddy told me they had a change counting machine at the mall.:bangHead:

This thread just keeps going like the energizer bunny, so I'll contribute my latest findings.

It's indeed illegal to glue a stack of Canadian pennies together to use as slugs. There's a Currency Act which says:

11. (1) No person shall, except in accordance with a licence granted by the Minister, melt down, break up or use otherwise than as currency any coin that is current and legal tender in Canada.

However, we can just use foreign coins. It can also be cheaper, I'm sure you can find some foreign coins of the right size that are worth less than 1 Canadian cent per coin.

So, take your shotgun to your local currency exchange house and ask for some coins. "No, this is not a robbery, I just want some money." And do it quickly and leave before the police arrives.

Anyone want to try this ? I'd like to know the terminal ballistics of such slugs, and how many pennies you can recover in spendable shape for a dead deer.

I love how this guy asks someone else to try this.

If you want to figure this out, maybe YOU should try it and post the results, instead of putting others in potential harms way.

Outstanding!

From minds like AMWAG's come the inovations that allow us to sit in comfortable chair, and communicate with the world. A few failed experiments along the way are to be expected, and may provide a bit of comic relief from the nay-sayers and safety nazi's.

Hi,

What do you think of the idea of using used batteries as shotgun slugs ? I looked up diameters online and it seems AAA batteries are good fit for .410, and AA batteries are good fit for 20 or 24 gauge.

Also if you glue a stack of pennies together, it should fit in 10 gauge barrrels. A stack of 10 pennies should give you a 360 grain slug, and if you file the diameter down by 0.6 mm it should fit in 12 gauge barrels.

You have to reload your shotshells of course. Anyone want to try this ? I'd like to know the terminal ballistics of such slugs, and how many pennies you can recover in spendable shape for a dead deer.

scary !!

" Best buck thirty I ever spent " billey the kid
That is old stuff , did you ever drop 3 lead 30/30 (.308) bullets 170 grain into a 12 gauge shot cup and launch for a long range load .
OR a JUNK YARD load of finishing nails surrounding broken windshield glass and wheel weights cut into triangle shape.
OH never mind you guys would not understand .
