Hey all,

Need some advice. Since august the LGS has been saying they should be getting a shipment of m14s in. This is not their fault as I know they are on the slow boat from china. However the guy there got a used one in and it is selling for 375(hes giving me first refusal). Now the question is do I keep waiting and pay 450 for a new one(im worried they wont come at all), or do I fork out the 375 and go shooting this weekend? Keep in mind I am a starving student and lots of other bills to pay, the saved money could buy 2 mags and a sling... Opinions?

Cheers,
Duncan

I've been where you are , a starving student but one who still needs to stay involved in the shooting game. Go for the $ 375 if you are happy with what you see. Ensure that you get some assurance that this rifle is a keeper. Any accessories with this baby ? That might save you some $$ right away.

Any other CGNutz able to help out by say.... inspecting this baby for Duncan71 ?? I would offer to look it over for you but I am 2 time zones away.....

Be safe,
Barney

Yea, Apparently they were expecting a few at pro line shooters, although they may all be spoken for now. There is no doubt they will let me test fire it, although I have no idea what to look for other than if it goes "BANG" I have heard there have been some bad batches of m14s, any way to identify if this is one? Thanks guys!

I have heard that you should have the head spacing checked on any Norc you buy, that they tend to be sloppy about it sometimes. I also understand that headspacing is not a real problem for a competent smith and that they can fix any problems associated with it cheaply and quickly.

The used gun racks are filled with keepers. My best firearm was bought used, and I still have it today. I have had about 5 guys try and buy it from me too. It is not for sale at any price.

The next common mistake newbies make is selling the keeper and regretting it afterward. Actually, the old hands often pull that stunt too, come to think of it.

Thats a smoking hot deal.

Might want to make sure everything is good with it.

Make sure he strips it down and check all the pieces, if he doesnt want too just note that it can be done under a minute, easily.

Save the extra money you saved, and buy ammo.. trust me!

.
again with the headspace thing- PEOPLE READ THE STICKY- there is NO PROBLEM WITH THE NEW NORCS- the information you're getting is at least 10 years old and exists on a HIT AND MISS BASIS on only those old rifles- i have one and it's fine

Don't buy it it's a terrible deal.. But give me the guy's number I'll see about negotiating for you....

I have 3 and don't have a clue what i'd do with a 4th....

Actually I can't lie I know exactly what I'd do with a fourth!

I also made an order in Pro Line. Called them weeks ago and got the same answer as yours: "slow ship from China". If you received call from them, please let me know. ;)

I think you get the idea from everyone. It's a good deal. $375 for a M14 is good. Consider that a new in cosmoline M14 will cost $400 plus tax and shipping. Then you have to degrease the mother and it might not turn out any better than the one for $375(assuming it's hasn't been beat to hell with ###XXrounds of rapid fire).

Hunter and many others have some thread stickies going I think on what too look for and what to do the make the M14 function well. If the rifle is tight, it's definately a damn good deal because a new one might or might not be as tight anyway.

Duncan... You better fire your a$$ into that store and have a good look at the m14... Right now the telephone lines are burning up because every M14 enthusiast looking for one is calling all the local gun stores in Calgary and offering $450 or $500...

Just make sure it's one of the newer one's not the old polytech's and if you can, pm someone like Hungry with pics if your unsure...

Cheers
Jay
