Back when real M-14's were $299.00, I had several including a 4 pack off all the different makers fromLever Arms. Every one I had and every one I have seen from those imports from Isreal had TRW bolts in them. This tells me that the Winchester , Springfield and H&R bolts were replaced by the Israelies. I wonder why? Perhaps all U.S.G.I. bolts are not created equal?
Yes, USGI means that these bolts have met the specification... it's all USGI.. that's what matters. In the meantime, we used to buy and sell them for $ 35 back in 1989 at Toronto gunshows.
And of course (here it comes... you predicted it) ; if you don't have a USGI bolt, yer #### will falloff!
Cheers and peace be to journey!

United States Government Issue.
So USGI are parts manufactured for the US gov't by approved contractors.
Aftermarket parts such as fulton would not technically be USGI parts
Thanks for the clarification. That's what I thought. It does seem that the term is often used loosley, and incorrectly.
The bolts I've aquired over the past few years since the border tightened up and canadians were no longer openly welcome at US gunshows and shops, have been from complete rifles or parts kits bought from private owners in canada.
US policy and the dwindling number of 12-3 M14's in canada, make a supply and demand situation for sought after parts.
Supply and demand have always dictated price in every marketplace. Personally I would not pay a penny more than 375.00 for a usgi bolt on the ee. I've seen the recently as high as 450.00 and my cash stays firmly in my pocket LOL
Ask yourself, why do I need a usgi bolt?
We have typically gone this route to achieve "match .308" headspace NOT because a GI bolt is somehow "better" than a norc one.
Then there's those who aren't happy till every part is upgraded. Yes, it increases value, BUT does it make the rifle any better? This is absolutely debatable.
My advice for what it's worth is do the basic tune ups and shoot her. If yer under 3" for 5 round groups at 100 , spend your money on quality ammo or reloading gear and shrink your groups.
Far easier that banging heads on walls trying to find a deal on parts that might not do squat for your groups.
How much is a 1/2" or 1" shrinkage of groups worth to you?
I would look to a short chambered match barrel, fitted with your existing parts as the smartest route to go for the $$$ spent.
