There were ten major contractors during WWII that were involved in the manufacture of the M1 carbine. Over the years I have come across several different makes...........and some not at all. I'm curious to know whether certain makes are more prevalent in Canada that others.

So if you got one or a bunch, which one(s) do you have? Restricted or non-restricted. As long as it was USGI.

Sorry guys. Wanted to post this thread as an actual poll but kind of screwed it up. Oh well. We'll carry on from here.

I got a Quality Hardware with post war upgrades and a Saginaw with none.

well i have at least one of every manufature and every sub contractor combo

the rarest being IRWIN PEDERSEN with the lowest production and the fact none were accepted by the us military UNTIL S'G' took over thier run

one of my favs is my

UN-QUALITY.......

I have had a few Inlands, a Saginaw, Rockola, but never came across an IBM. Even had an IP once upon a time.
I kept the best one of the bunch, an as- issued Underwood, late '43 manufacture. Was not registered until a couple years ago as it came off the old Alaska Highway project.

Funny you should mention IBM...I just looked up the serial number of mine and it shows to be in the IBM range 38###xx (jan-mar '44). Actually, just looked at it closely and it says I.B.M. Corporation on it...

Question... why would anyone wish to own a rifle incapable of taking out, I quote, "heavily clothed Vietnamese soldiers". The caliber from my understand was substandard, the rifle prone to jams and the gas system subjected to bad fouling. Please correct me if wrong on any count, I'm here to learn not challenge.

Thanks,

Why does anyone own a car that can go faster then 110 km/h?
Why own a big boat if you don't fish?
Why own a V-8 pickup truck when gas price's keep going up?
Because our ancester's died for our right to do/buy/get what ever we want to.
Do you own any AR's? Anything restricted?
Why?
You can take it to the range only if they let you.
Tie up a couple grand in anything you like to play with and if your denied it's use what good is it?
We don't have the right to bear arm's here, so take it as best you can, and get/enjoy it!

The Carbine is somewhat underpowered, but there are many thousands of graves full of proof that it can kill. Remember that this piece was designed to be a light and handy replacement for both the pistol and SMG, and that it was intended for non-infantry personnel such as weapons crews, drivers, etc. While it would'nt be my first pick as a manstopper,I would'nt volunteer to be shot by one.
