Using a sling on your Black Rifle

We have a number of those Tri Glides on order, however they are all sold out already.

We've placed an order for more though.

I would definately buy a Tri Glide, however I heard that if you have the VCAS with the QD swivels sewn in its a ##### to get that thing on.
 
Beltfed, my guitar line wasn't meant to offend anyone. If my comments seem pointed it's because I have a significant amount of experience training people who are hell bent on not listening. Sometimes you need to paint a picture...

OK so here's my 2 cents on what's out there right now. I've run the all of the slings below operationally and some of them in combat. This is based on my experience and some may disagree...whatever.

VCAS
IMHO the gold standard in a strap to carry your gun. It's the highest quality made sling I've ever seen and i wish that some other nylon products out there had the same effort put into them. It's easily adjustable and has a wide variety of adapters, making it the most diverse slings on the market. I've run this sling for significant periods of time and intend on continuing it's use on all of my long guns and my work gun.

While this sling is well designed, I found it to be less durable than the VCAS, both in materials and build. After a month of use the material was wearing in critical spots and the slide mechanism that they used had loosened off under the weight of my rifle. Me thinks that this sling could be better put to use on a lightweight build of some sort.

BFG Vest Sling...I don't think they make it anymore.
I prefer the utility and diversity of a 2 point but have found limited applications for a 1 point. This sling is the one with the plastic wedges that anchor on your PALS. During very deliberate operations I would sometimes run a 1 point which allowed me maximum mobility for weapon manipulations. This one is great, it integrates with the PALS on the back of your vest and hangs the gun on your centerline. It's also of the same great quality and versatility as the VCAS, I've used several adapters for it. The only thing it's lacking is a release buckle so you don't get choked out when snagged and to allow for easier donning.

OK....fanboys be gone. While I enjoy the IDEA of a 1 to 2 point convertible sling, in PRACTICE not so much. This sling is a theory based product and I think it's a theory easier realized on the floor of Shot Show than on the battlefield. It's very high quality and fun to play around with but when it's mixed with armour/a heavier gun/stress it becomes a bit of a mess. If I were carrying a light SBR with no/concealed armour then maybe this would be an option. It must also be used with the ASAP for maximum effect so those running agency guns that can't me modified are SOL. Others may have a different experience but that's mine.

In my opinion a 2 point sling is the most versatile for military/LE/citizen. It allows for a proper transition, slinging on the back and general controllability. If mounted and adjusted correctly, a 2 point can provide the same mobility for manipulations as a 1 point. I'm Regular Force Army for the time being and I highly recommend a 2 point for all of my guys. The men who argue are usually asked to climb over a wall with their cheapo digifaluge 1 point bungee sling and let me know how it works out for them.

As for three points....mine are in a box in the basement along with my high top LA lights and Arktis jungle vest. Sometimes you just need to get with the times and ditch what's been proven to be out of date and inferior. In the Forces our 3 point "patrol" sling was optimized for comfort as apposed to gun fighting, they were philosophically flawed from the beginning.

You can actually get one made for sewn in swivels.

I'm not sure if that site ships to Canada, maybe if you called them they could.

I got mine from Brownells, however it wasn't that optional model that mounts over the sewn in swivel.
 
I had a single point on my 14" 870. I hated it. The damned thing flopped around, hit me in the nuts and naturally hung pointing at my left knee, which creeped me out.

Sold the gun. And the sling. Now I have a 12.5" with no sling and am happy as a sandboy.
 
I actually like my single point as I prefer to have my rifle in front for three gun transitions, wish it didn't hang quite so low though
 
Onagoth. Take a look at the two promo videos we put out on BFG and OSTS.

All the shooting I do is with a Vickers sling. I do some shoulder tansitions in the BFG one, so you can get an idea of how the Two Point Adjustables would work for you.
 
Thank you to the OP for this topic. Years ago, we'd try to emphasize sling use (pluses and minuses of various styles) for deliberate shooting applications in service rifle, and the difference it would make on score--only to have most of the advice fall on deaf ears.

Nice to see someone resurrecting sling usage.

I was looking at getting a new sling for my hunting tactical rifle (yes people I like to take my non-restricted tactical rifles hunting if I can! :p ) , and I was leaning towards an MS3 sling, as it can be adjusted quickly, and quickly converted to 1 point.

Any info, opinions, short stores, poems, or songs about it that you could share?
 
If you use the sling more as 2 point, get an actual 2 point sling.

Magpul's line of slings are 1 point slings with an optional 2 point mode. They are too short for full time 2 point usage.

I feel it's the first accessory you should buy after sights. Let me know if you ever need a clinic just on slings.

Never used them myself. We have some arriving in the next few days so I'll have a better idea once I get a hands on.

What kind and style of hunting? Rabbits, deer, moose? Do you sit, walk or push?

I would be on the quad & walking when using my "tactical" .22 (Rabbits, partridge and squirrels) . Sitting and stalking when using the Mini14 on wolves and coyote and CZ-858 for deer.
 
If your going to be switching between those 3 firearms the MS3 might be the way to go.

It's a little faster to remove completely from the rifle and might hook in better on the mini and the .22.

I ordered the BFG SOC-C sling from you a while back. It's been doing good but I thought about picking up a rail adaptor (and mash hook) to convert it to two point.

However, if you come to our zombie match in September, I would be surprised if I don't leave with a VCAS sling. :D Worst case scenario I end up with two slings. Will also probably need the accessories as well.

P.S. As much as I hate to admit Farmboy is correct if you are looking for a sling for the AR15 it is the VACS sling with that QD sling mount that attaches to the rear part of the sling. As show in previous posts.
