Using a sling on your Black Rifle

What are guys thoughts on push button QD swivels? I'm definetely looking to invest in a padded VCAS for my heavier weapons but I'm thinking setting them up with QD points would work best so I can swap the sling around quickly. Are some better than others? (speaking name brand, not airsoft junk) and do they ever release accidentally?

What's funny is there is no actual specs on push buttons :)

As long as you buy from a reputable dealer, or a name brand, then you'll be pretty good. Ihave seen a couple fail from every maker, but you can never tell if it's the push button or the cup.

I think they're pretty great. There's No clanking metal as there is with metal hooks and loops, which depending on what you're using it for can be pretty beneficial. They're quick, easy and then you can use the same sling on several rifles. Just get each one set up with the QD mount in the places you see fit.
Plenty of newer AR's are accomadating these QD mounts directly into their receivers and stocks already (Vltor, LMT, Magpul to name a few). Although it is mostly the higher end rails, receivers and stocks that are integrated.

Like Farmboy said, go for name brand/reputable companies.
Brownells has VLTOR QD swivels for a good price, or most of the forum sponsors should have quality brand QDs as well.

Check HERE for a few different mounting solutions/ideas.

Hope this opens the doors to QD swivels for you.

I cant decide if I want a 1 or 2 point for my first sling, it will be for a shortie rifle and shotgun. Think I will buy the MS3 and give both methods a try.

I thought I had seen vickers slings on your site that could be configured with qd mounts sewn in. They don't seem to be on there anymore, are they no longer a available? I would like to order one.

We have a number of those Tri Glides on order, however they are all sold out already.

We've placed an order for more though.

Can you PM the cost of exactly what is shown in the youtube video including the padded sling. This is for an RFB not an AR so I am not sure what else I would need to make it work.

Thanks in advance.

For Longer Range stuff the front QD spot is great - but for mostly everything else the mid point is where I am now enjoying sling placement.

On light guns I will run a VCAS, but for heavier ones (especially 7.62mm NATO goodness) I like the padded VCAS.

Push Button QD's should be able to hold 400lbs if made to 'spec' Uncle Mike's was building them for most - but sold their tooling to someone else (I can't recall who). Blue Force Gear has the best ones on the market I have seen.

I've mentioned in other threads (ar essentials...), a good sling is a must. even though farmboy is hawking his own wares, he can back that #### up. the vcas is the shiznit. If there were easy methods of attaching vcas to ak's it would definitely be a paradigm shift for the ppl i mentor.

I've toyed with magpul slings, and three point slings, and bungee slings, and all sorts of home made or modified slings... Even the nightmarish c7 sling...uggghhh...and I keep going back to the bfg vcas sling.

Truth be told, I've NEVER mounted, dismounted with a slung gun over my shoulder. good practice or not, I don't know, but for me, its plain awkward.

Great thread guys. One question I didn't see answered was positioning of a sling when carrying a firearm on your shoulder/back? Would you typically have the muzzle pointing up or down? Or would you just never do this.

I personally prefer muzzle up. The main reason is if the rifle discharges there is a good chance of it hitting nothing. If it discharges muzzle down then it could hit my lower legs or feet.

Again depends on the situation, the ground, and other factors.

I rarely if ever carry on my back though.

The first and last time I used a single point on one of my rifles, it swung down and promptly cracked my boys. It's now framed to remind me they forever suck on long rifles.

Farmboy, it's a shame you guys don't have the medic models anymore.

I bought two, loved the second adjustment, I found it really made a difference over the back on my hunting rifles, and in the gun safe for storage.
