Using a sling on your Black Rifle

This should be condensed a bit with the good stuff all on the first post (pictures too). With a little bit of extra work it should be a sticky.

Does anyone use the BFG VCAS as a shooting support sling for service-rifle type shooting? Or is it intended (as the name implies) primarily for combat/tactical use?

I know a few guys who do.

Because of how the adjuster works, guys are able to drop their elbow into the sling for support much the same way other "sniper" rifle slings are used.

Awe yey! Are we talking about slings again? Perfect timing!

I'm still really happy with my Urban ERT on the Tavor, but I'm tired of sharing it with my Cz858 and freshly magpulled shotgun

Now the Cz and the shotgun both have the option for a sling attachment right above the pistol grip, with the Cz having an attachment "mid barrel" at the end of the foregrip and the shotty having an attachment "end barrel" at the bottom of the mag tube (plus the one built into the SGA stock)

I'm pretty much sold on a vickers sling at this point, but what considerations should I be looking at for these other guns that fit differently than the Tavor?

Awe hell. Lets put those pictures in here too:

Here is my BD44 with a Blue Force Gear UDC single point sling that I got from One Shot. Sorry about the crappy iphone pic, though I'm happy the camera still works after it went through the washing machine.

I can hang the rifle at my side, if I choose too, but I'm only just tall enough to prevent the muzzle from hitting the ground. I prefer to always hold onto the rifle, so the single point works for me. Transitions from right to left are smooth and so far with and without my webbing the sling doesn't not get hung up on anything.

I would recommend against utilizing sling points near the pistol grip or any fire controls.
I feel the best approach is standardizing where your sling points are located, slings used (if that is possible) and the connections used to mount the slings. Mine are strong side of the butt and support side of the forward receiver round about the gas block, forward of my grip on the hand guard.
I've tried to go with push buttons front and rear (easily done on ARs) but on rifles where that is not possible, they get a dedicated adapter where needed. The common denominator then becomes the fastex connection. (Not sure how that reads, so I'll just post photos). The Vickers system has just about every adapter likely needed.
The below photo has 4 ARs all set to run both front and rear push button swivels. The Sig carbine is the odd man out as it is using an HK style mash-type adapter (it's actually a modified C9 sling adapter mated up to a fastex buckle of the same pattern as the VCAS slings). All of the rifles (with the exception of the full length black special) have roughly the same dimensions from rear to front sling points. I can generally share one sling common to them all with the exception of the rear adapter.

The black special has a dedicated sling due to the length and the two adapters I've used drastically changes the overall length needed and the attachment method used.

I've taken to a different method of using my BFG VCAS for CQB stuff.

Running it in the house on just the neck -- it allows ducking out of it if it gets grabbed, and also does not tangle me up for leverage if it gets grabbed -- transitions side to side easily - and slipping right arms through lets me get it muzzle down around my back. Still transitions easily to pistol and hangs out of the way.

Yeah I run the BFG padded on all of my rifles, I literally have no interest in any other sling out there on the market, unless doing close protection work or vip/undercover which I don't do so I have no need.

That's a slick way to do it. Earl Green demonstrated that method on his last Adv carbine course.

Not to get off topic, but in reference to the second photo, do most shoot houses (or instructors) allow sabrina, or does it depend on floor level that you are on?

I run the Magpul MS2/3 slings. I like the idea of been able to go from 1 point to a 2 point setup as needed. I attach the sling on the rear receiver plate on single point and up to the front on 2 point sling.

I have a magpul sling as well, actually two of them. Both of them are sitting in my drawer after I started using the VCAS.

Just reconfigured my MS3 to a setup like Farmboys, wow does that make things easier! Only problem is the sling digs into my neck sometimes. I'll have to get a padded sling I guess...
