UTAS UTS15 Gen 4: A Review.

Like I keep reading reviews it seems like the gen 4 is good to go.....but it still seems like it's the luck of the draw if you get a good one or not.......still up in the air

Not so man.....once you train yourself to pump it like the boss it rocks

I talked myself into one, going to skeet with it so I have to look for a choke. Can't wait for the new light/laser... or should I get glow in the dark clays and skeet at night lol

Has anyone found a decent way to attach a Velcro shell sleeve on these? I ask because this will be my new bush/Shack gun (farm) and I am on the quad a lot or in the truck so can't be loaded. Would like quick access to ammo as I'm not opposed to tossing one after another into the chamber until there is time to actually load this beast.

Do you guys like the irons?
Is a co witness mount red dot too high on these?
Can you single point sling this or do you have to two or tree point it?
Anyone in Canada carry the Tooth and nail armory style pump rail?
Is there anyway to keep the breach open with the spring assist or do you need to disable?

Thanks guys, been back and forth on this for years and with the new price could not resist!!! Lol not many problems 7 slugs and 8 buck shot can't solve.

Action does not stay open, I haven't mounted a red dot the irons are good.

I bought and used:

UTG Standard Push Button QD Sling Swivel, 1-Inch Loop https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B003TWZHKY/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_LaYoybDCZAP2F

It cost me $98.85 plus exchange rate on my credit card to get the magpul front and picatinny forend from tooth and nail. He sent it by US Post so no UPS bullcrap .

Specter CST Sling for $39.99, Color Black Model 216 was used as well.

4GT.com has ergo grips for your next upgrade :

That's good to know about tooth and nail shopping because I'll grab the rail and a modified choke. I think I'll try a different rout than the magpul grip. And good to know the ergo ones will mount without the lower assembly switch out.

Lol if action doesn't stay open that spring will be the first thing to go!!! No interest in a pump closing on its own.

Thanks for the quick reply.

It helps to work the action as in it ensures proper force is applied.

You can always get an action flag as I did :

UTG RB-CSF06 Universal Firearm Chamber Safety Flag, Orange, 6-Pieces/Set

You're welcome on the fast response

I emailed them for an ETA after reading this a while back and they finally got back to me today wondering what I was talking about... Apparently they have no new flashlight/laser in the works for Gen4. Who told you there was?
Be advised UTAS is in the process of making a new light/laser assembly for the Gen 4's no ETA yet though. I'm ordering my UTAS sans light and laser until these are released.

Also hugely disappointed that you Utas USA will not ship to Canada and no Canadian dealerships can get in the tube block kits for hunting! Yes I want to limit my 14 rounds to 2 lol going to have to find a way to back yard it I suppose.

I was told by tooth and nail, Wolverine and I private importer. I did not get confirmation from UTAS themselves. For all I know they scrapped it or originally fed the info to the dealers then did not proceed. I was told it was supposed to be brighter, laser more adjustable, fit without modification or spring removal and possibly a strobe function.

Still for 300$ I will put a 45 mount at the front and mount my Klarus 2000lums on it and a red dot.

Um... whats wrong with the "old" flashlight laser combo they had in Gen 1 trough 3 ? If you throw the spring loaded helping close device out, it fits just the same. Now, If you intend to keep the "forward assist" Install as follows:
-Uninstall forward assist spring housing ( 2 allen screws from the bottom)
-Install light and switch assy as you would in previous generations
-While leaving about 6 coils for easy battery change in front, uncurl some coils to get about 8" straight cable, the bottom of your spring assist is notched out, bury the cable there while getting the spring assist assy back in and tightened.
-tug the remaining coils in front of the switch, behind the spring assist.
...done.

Works on mine anyway.

I shot mine with a turkey ( extra full ) choke without barrel extension at the local trap shooting club and made 3rd place in the beginners class. The UTS takes beretta "mobil" chokes... they're fairly common.

The Mobil chokes are what sold me, my Derya Mk10 took a turkey at 60 yards with a red dot in the spring. Everyone laughed at the 18" barrel till that and the guys with 28-30" had issues at 40-50yards. I love my modern fire arms but the chokes really do make the difference. I'll be throwing my coyote choke on this.

Or...if you have a HSP Thorntail sitting around and a couple blind nuts, you can do this. Can run the pump as hard as you want and it does not catch your thumb going past the mount.

I just got mine from the black friday sale. Fit and finish are good. But I could not get the action to stay to the rear. Is there a trick to this?

I picked up an 870 police afew years ago for around the same price as this and have had no issues with it.

As much as concepts like this are interesting and have there place I do not see it replacing the 870 or the 500/590 in the hands of Police or Mil even if it was perfect. 870 is tried and trued reliable, and you will always find parts for it.

Just my 2 cents.
