sigh.....it seems really difficult to find a good rifle, if I could I'd take a dsa FAL carbine and be done with it.
For pistols I chose the 3 calibers that made sense to me: colt 1911a1 goldcup stainless (pretty safe bet), glock 22 (FBI and USA police) wanted something in .40s&w and 9mm Beretta Inox (US military sidearm)
For shotgun it was a bit harder but settled on police model remington 870, I was going to buy the mossberg 590a1 (seems generally more reliable and more liked) but last minute went for remington because of steel receiver and got the knoxx stock (seemed to do a great job of reducing recoil and I like pistol grip even though its generally not liked among the shotgun crowd), also the fact that it can be choked although I'd prob only really use it wide open.
Sorry to offend anyone but the M16, C7, AR15 whatever you want to call it just isn't reliable enough for what I'm looking for and I'm qualified to say that based on my own personal experience. I don't have much experience on any other rifle and the grass is always greener. If there isn't anything more reliable than I guess I'll never be happy. Maybe it IS very reliable compared to other rifles I don't know.
If a bear is coming at you and you pull the trigger and the gun doesn't fire then nothing else really matters, the accuracy, weight, etc. The number 1 and 2 most important thing for me is that when I pull the trigger that it ALWAYS shoots (or as close to always as I can get).
My search for the best all around, close to mid range, Canadian legal, reliable and I mean SUPER reliable, 7.62x39 or x51, rifle continues. I may have to go with my first choice of LRB M25 tanker (with scope mount), light weight barrel, in a mccann carbon fiber stock with 1x4 nightforce scope.
I like to have good quality things especially when it comes to a rifle and I can't shoot more than 1 rifle at a time so I'd just like 1 really good one. I'm not interested in anything low cost because you generally get what you pay for. I'll end up getting other good quality rifles later anyway.
All that being said I am still relatively interested in the RFB its a neat concept (but unsure of reliability, it seems kel tech has a bad name I watched a video of them testing a pistol and the RFB, the RFB did well but the pistol was such a lemon). I am also still interested in the overpriced M78. If I have to spend 5k to get the best rifle then that's fine with me. It seems more accurate than the AK47 and should also be very reliable since it is the AK action, probably a bit less reliable because of tighter tolerances (IE more accuracy). The XCR seems much too unreliable for me (based on research), even though its AK style action I guess its just not ready yet or they didn't do as good a job as they could have.
I am on this forum because I don't know everything and I don't pretend to know everything or really anything. I am looking for help from you guys who know a lot more about this than I do. I thank everyone for their help!
