Valmet M78/AK74

Geez, this just won't die... Boys, what it boils down to is... Desire, effort, time and money... With the proper configuration of those four... ANYTHING is possible... Oh ya, I forgot, you also need a healthy dose of patience, cause my guess is it took a LONG time to collect all the parts, let alone the tools and skills...

My hat is off to Gunplumberr for spending the time, effort & money to show us all just what can be accomplished with a healthy dose of desire!!!

Cheers
Jay
P.S. and in such a ###y round like the 5.45x39...

It's because the Valmet represents the nearly unattainable 'holy grail' of Canadian Black Rifledom: a legally owned, tradable and shootable AK variant. When you reconfigure it to Krinkov specs, that just pushes things even further and the religious fervour builds to a fever pitch! :dancingbanana: :ar15:

Besides, didn't you just push this thread back to the top by making that point? :D

i sold my valmet hunter for 1500
my m78 in 223 for 3000 and the m78 in 308 for $4000
bbb

Now that the topic has drifted over to prices ...

The last 2 that I saw for sale were at the Coquitlam, B.C. Show earlier this year, one fellow was asking 4,000 + for one apparently as new, I do not know if it sold.

And the other one in excellent condition sold for 2,800.

They were both in .308.

Supply and demand sets the prices on these rifles.

4000 for a Valmet is just downright....... :)

Crazy? Yes it is, however, I have one and would not really want to sell it, as it took me a long time to find one in .308 and in mint condition.

That being said I do not think that it is really 4 or 5 times the rifle that my CZ-858 is, it is just more collectable, and has the cool AK appeal with european craftmanship.

If you cannot find one at a "reasonable" price, just buy the CZ-858, we should consider ourselves fortunate that we can get these here, and at a great price.

now that we know how MUCH they go for now, lets hear how inexpensive they once were.
I'll go first.
I bought my first one through the Buy and Sell in Vancouver about 20 or 22 years ago. It was .223 and I paid $450 for it.
A few years later, I saw a .308 version in the B&S for $675. I thought this was too much, based on what I had paid before, but I loved the design, so choked up the cash.
Unfortunately, I missed out on a new, in box, M71 just last year, advertised in Can. Access. for $450. Yes it is 12-5 prohib grandfathered, but I have that, so if I moved fast enough it could have been mine. Missed it by a day.

Cfc

The rules that we all live with and by are freaking re-donk-ulous!!!!!

As you read this I am in the process of importing a Valmet Hunter that is NIB from the states! Go Questar!

Good price and as long as I can wait the 8 weeks it should all work and I can have my NIB Valmet!!!!!!!

I think that to spite the GOVT everyone should be importing them!!!!!

Once it is here I will leave all details along with costs.

HP

PS-Can someone send me the pics of the Valmet in question at the beginning of the thread???
