Just curious as I have never seen one or heard speak of one before till recently

Canadian and British paratroopers jumped into Normandy,June 1944 , Operation Market Garden,the landing in Holland , Sept 1944 , and Operation Varsity, the airborne landing in Germany ,March 1945 , with the No.4 rifle , except at the end of the war , when a British Airborne Division were flown into Oslo, Norway , by transport aircraft, these Para’s were armed with the No.5 rifle, I believe it might be the first time the No.5 rifle was issued in quantity

Interesting reply . As I have a 1916 , a Long Branch 1945 and a 1966 2A1 308 Enfield .
I looked at a few rifles on intent . This is similar to the style of the piece I seen , But the piece is based on a Enfield 303 action

There was some trials with the No5s with removable butts for paratroopers.

So, this may be a stretch, but during WW2 and after the Brit's trialed a few rifles as alternatives, among them were lightened No1 test beds for aluminium furniture.
