Value of 1970's made 870 Wingmaster 12ga

Sometimes I’ll find even older original finish guns that didn’t have the right person in the polishing room. You’ll see this edge polished down/softened before it got blued on otherwise minty guns. Being picky i passed on all of em

What are people's opinions on converting these fixed choke wing masters to shoot steel?

Debating whether to have a smith a open up a fixed full choke 28" wingmaster barrel to modified or IC so it can handle #BB and #2 steel

Exactly.....I challenge anyone to show me a decent Wingmaster for $200.

Pic this up for 250$ a few weeks ago, I did add the +1 , Norinco barrel and sling adapter I had n my parts bin. Also refinished the wood and cut like 1" off the buttstock. Sold the 28" barrel to a buddy for 20$

They can keep those new $1300 POS

Irma Elks Gun show

Pays to show up early. I didnt even haggle the price.

You got quite the deal on that, congrats 🥳

If a person wants to spend $300 for a field grade non vent ribbed Wingmaster or model 12 they are welcome to it.
I have bought several of each in the last few years, and paid under $300 for any of them.
I use them for loaner guns at our club or sell them for starter shotguns . Let's face it, they are field grade plain Jane shotguns, nothing more.

When you factor in inflation or deflation of the purchising power of $300, it's a good buy. $50 bill is the new $20.

Last year, I paid about double that for a Win Model 12 - "plain jane" in 12 gauge - but it was made in 1955 - same year that I was. This year, I got a Browning Cynergy Euro Field in 28 gauge - a bit more "fancy" one, I think

The last model 12 I bought was two years ago- $275.
I traded a cheap Winchester pump with steel approved chokes I bought for $300 for a model 12 3" Heavy Duck which is a bit of a rare bird.

Check the E&E and a couple of gun shows then make up your own mind. Realize that it does not have screw-in chokes and is only 2 3/4" chamber so not much interest from anyone hunting waterfowl. Also, a fixed full choke is not recommended for steel loads so another strike against it. Old Model 12s and 870s are what I call "Nostalgia guns": very well made and finished but a bit out of touch for the current crop of hunters and target shooters so not a bit market.

I would buy every single Wingmaster I could find for $250.
I don't understand you, you're not making any sense and appear to be suffering from some sort of confirmation bias? Almost everyone agrees a Wingmaster is worth between $200-$300, and you tear at your clothes. Waterfowler asks for a confirmation, and is provided one...yet you still refuse to acknowledge the demonstrative truth?

Okay, tell you what, let's find something you can agree with. Wingmasters are worth between $100 and $300...aside from Leg's Wingmasters; those ones are worth between $1K and $3K. :ROFLMAO: Better?

I think you'll find it isn't worth the effort.

You'll be much farther ahead barrel shopping. For every old 870, I'll conservatively estimate 3 fixed choke barrels. What you're looking for is out there.

FWIW, I sold the gun locally last week for $280. It was an older 70's gun which I'd been at least the third owner of, 2¾" only, fixed full choke, 30" barrel, had wear and some scratches on it here and there. I agree with the poster above in that it was a gun with very limited scope of use. No good for hunting, not great for skeet. I was asking $300 and ended up taking $280 for it and the guy was really happy with the purchase.

I feel it was a very fair price, and we were both happy. I'm not out to gouge anyone.

Thank you for all the replies, they really helped.
