Hi folks,
I was given this Manton side by side shotgun recently. I shoot black powder but never a 12 gauge. I contacted my club and they said there rules stated that the only place I could fire it was a the skeet area.....I don't really have a place for this in my collection and would appreciate if someone could give me some information and a value for selling it. There is no date stamped on the receiver, but it has to be up there in age.
Thanks for your input.

Nice looking gun. What are the bores like ?

Would you be able to take the barrels of and get us some pictures of the underside near the breach ?

Here are some more photos. I hope that they help out. There were a few marking on the bottom. The barrels are pretty dirty from sitting. It's been a long time since it's last been fired.

Looks to be better than most. Might make a good shooter.
The "Manton" on the gun has nothing to do with the family of makers of best quality guns.
Your is a very standard Birmingham made gun produced in the countless thousands.
As far as value goes, based on its condition as a probable shooter, I would suggest $275 or so.

X2! Nice looking back action SXS, but I doubt very much it is a John Manton and CO. or John Manton and sons gun, otherwise I'm pretty sure it would say so .

I will disagree with Tiriaq and say that it has a partial connection. When one of the Manton's dies (forget which one) his wife took over ownership of the company and the business was run by the foreman of the company. All of the Mantons that I have seen have been of a grade similar to yours or standard Birmingham as Tiriaq says. I would put the value around $300, maybe a little bit more but not much. One final note; if you are replacing the nipples at some point, they will almost certainly be 26 threads per inch not 28 which is the common US pitch today.
