I have been out of shooting for over a decade and just getting back into it. Looking at making some changes to my toys. Need a little help on one.

I have a nice fully registered to me, and deemed prohibited 12(5) FN 308 in my safe. Havent done anything with it for a long time. If i read the rules, i can only sell to another prohibited owner? Is there any value in an older gun like this in good shape or am I better to have it plugged/decommissioned or surrender it? That would be a shame, great gun but didnt know if this has much value or no?

Any tips on value? Is it worth a lot or nothing...no idea, but its a great rifle and would be a shame to destroy it. Thanks.

Bill from gun shop shows it as a lithgow, but no name on rifle.

Searched the internet for 2 minutes and the serial number starts with a UE58A###xx So I believe thats british and enfield factory and 1958 year. No idea.

I had posted in the wrong forum and someone moved it for me. Looking on finding out the value, and a little more info. Had several pms, thanks. Anyone know more about value etc, please let me know. Gun is in very good condition, was used but it is not dead or beat up. Thanks for the help. Very nice to see that this does not need to get destroyed.

I moved it for you.

Never just surrender it! Never ever! Yes you must sell to a 12(5) licensed individual.

The 12(x) game is pretty niche market (we aren't getting any younger are we?) and unless its a uber rare model a couple hundred bucks is all you'll get for it. I bought a beauty model 6 months ago for $400 shipped... but that's because it was a mint Belgian model. Without seeing it I wouldn't go more than $300 TOPS in excellent ++ condition for it but that's just me (and I really don't need another Lithgow).

I wish I could stock my safe with cheap fals

Don't sell it or you may lose your prohib class. That gun would have been worth much, much more a couple decades ago. Now, it is worth more to keep than to sell.

Those Aussie L1s are real high quality for FALs. Any luck, policy might change again. Hang on to the sucker. First two numbers in the serial indicate year of manufacture.

Grizz

I hate to see these firearms slowly disappear. Basically confiscation through attrition. Do not turn it in at any cost. There are various levels of FAL hell. Destroyed, deactivated or parted out. I have seen deactivated FAL's sell at auction for crazy prices as anyone can purchase them and they make interesting conversation pieces . Parted out you can sell some items for more than the rifle would retail for. Keep the receiver and hope for a return to sanity and rebuild it or just put it further back in the safe and not be tempted to let it go.

keep it. Don't part with it. I have several 12.5 FNs. And I am not about to sell them all. I will keep one 12.5 even if I live to 100 just to spight the government.

There are many who think the FAL is the ultimate battle rifle. You might as well keep it and hope that the Government expands the new common sense firearms act next term. It is entirely possible since a semi auto 308 is just that. I have 12-3 and missed 12-5 as I bought an HK91 about two weeks after the cutoff. It was in my possession for a while. My FAL is metric.

Alan Lever sold these for $199.00 in the good old days.

Around 1980 some friends and I worked for Allan Lever unloading a sea can of L1A1s...Hundreds of em.
And we got the pick of the litter!
They were $199. each like buckbrush said, with deals on case lots.

I've stated this before: I believe there is a case to be made in the Supreme Court that the entire prohibited class legislation is unconstitutional.
It is evil in two ways. It puts financial penalty on existing owners who have done nothing wrong; and it is systemic discrimination based on age.

Class. Action. Suit.

If anyone can get it rolling - it would have to be a younger RPAL holder who missed the cut-off date - I'll happily kick in the first $50 for the legal fund.

Come on all you 12.x holders! Help the youngsters buy our stuff.
