Value of FN 308 "lithgow L1A1

i would love to get my hands one one of these just the nostaligia alone is worth it to me, and i would pay a nice sum, however too young to have the prohib on my licence.....argh.

The UE in your serial number means that it was manufactured at the Enfield plant not Australia. Used condition $300.00-$400.00

informative thanks

The ones Century were selling were mix-masters. I bought an L1A1 for $199.00 as well and it has an Aussie upper with a Brit UE lower.

Decidedly sad that a mint Belgian model is only worth $400. Thirty plus years ago, we had the documented(Blake Stevens book) very last C1A1 ever made in the shop. Also mint. Auctioned it at 7 grand then a bit less when the kid who bid that couldn't get the money.
There's no 'may' about it if you sell your only prohibited firearm. Sell the last one and you lose the ticket, period. And you cannot get it back later.

Kind of sad... But it's probably worth more as a dewat...

This been said, I thought you could still bring them to the range to 'test functionality'?

You can take them to an approved range if you get the ATT. It is the fact that no CFO will grant the ATT that stops us. ATT to gun shows and gunsmiths is allowed but just try to take a semi auto center fire rifle to the range and be fired and all hell breaks loose.

Keep your Lithgow, it's probably not worth a lot more now than the 500 bucks I sold mine for in 1989. It does however keep you in a special club, I was asleep through C-68 so it's forbidden fruit for me, don't let it happen to you for a few measly hundred dollars.

what I don't get and don't see addressed in this "common sense firearms bill" is that once a rifle is mechanically altered to CFC standards and inspected to be semi auto only (converted auto) it shouldn't be a prohib anymore.
period.

example a converted auto M14 is no different than any other semi auto only M14. to alter either one to a fully automatic would take some serious work and couldn't be done by average joe with his hammer and drill press LOL
the converted auto's remaining prohibited is a situation that has no explanation when one applies "common sense" to the issue.
in this country, if yer a gun owner, yer guilty till proven innocent and there is also no "common sense" to that either.

keep that rifle, it stands for something and is a big middle finger to the anti gunners and politicians who seem to think they know what's best for us.

The whole converted auto nonsense came from the U.S. ATF exporting their 'Once and MG, always an MG' BS. The ATF is also civil servants making law by regulation. Eliminates an entire class of firearm just like the .25/.32 and 4" barrels does.
The Common Sense Bill really doesn't do much other than amalgamating the PAL and POL. Guilty until you prove you're innocent is French Common law that Trudeau the Elder and the Mulroney Gang tried so hard to implement for years. We don't see Harper changing that or legislating an end to civil servants making law by regulation.

A lot of us here (and I believe Thomas you are one of us) are old enough to have seen firearms ownership in this country slowly change from something common and un-sensational to something that is feared by ignorant people. It took a long time for the rules to change and I expect it will take some time to replace them. I don't think it's an issue the CPC are prepared to die over and given another majority they may further improve the regulations. The common sense firearms act is a step in the right direction. You know if they de-prohibited the classes the media would be screaming bloody murder. And JT would offer them up to ISIS.

Now that the ATT is going allowing us to transport our prohibs to the range may not be a big step.

Damn I would seriously love to have one of these. I think you should keep it and enjoy it as it's something most of us can never experience owning. My .02.

Can you transport it to an interior range that have a gunsmith inside the facility (c42 should allow that you just went to the gun smith for some testing...)?

I have several FN's, both semi and converted auto. To the ignorant bureaucrats and elected politicians who deemed these prohibited - GFY.

To those on here who like to point out how worthless these guns are - how many do you have? We used to have a great time blazing away with one of the Ishapores and one of the black ones (not sure if it is British or ?).

To those who think they will vote LIEbral or Dipper - they will be coming for yours next.

Given the rolling of the LTATT into the RPAL it raises some interesting interpretational issues - for example, my current LTATT says I can transport restricted and prohibited firearms - I have no 12.x on my RPAL, but if you do, and the LTATT is rolled in, it's a matter of interpretation as to what exactly the LTATT covers. Especially with the prohib clause included. Perhaps after all of this election nonsense, we can get the public safety minister to interpret for us?
