Value of Original k98k Sniper??

Claw mount bases are installed. Avg cost from gunsmith to do, $1500.00
Missing claws: $50-$100. If can't find originals, maybe $300 to to buy and fit replacements.

Scope was commercially mounted. Dovetail rails is a giveaway. Never seen that system used on WWII military rifles. Be aware that these scopes are only adjustable for elevation. Windage adjustment is/should be from base of rear scope ring.

As it is, maybe $400 to $600
Complete with proper rings, $600-$1000 with the right buyer

The P14 sniper rifle or No3 had a front claw mount similar to that but I'm no student of German kit apart from Rigby mausers and my last one has a claw mount set up like that.
 
The israeli 98k sniper rifles used a swiss claw mount which fits into the receiver mount somewhat like your picture. The mount becomes part of the rifle. The mount is really heavy because the scope has the rings built in. The scope then slides into the mount. I have two of the israeli snipers with 4x swiss made scopes.

Sorry, but he can look for the rest of his life and he'll never find WWII era mounts that will fit that scope to those bases. Some EAW's might do it though.

Scope is late 50s to late 60s IMO.

The old owner had the rifle complete and used it for hunting, he has the mounts in his shed...but he has to find them in there.:D
 
dgradinaru if he don't come up with the mounts by Christmas send me a pm, I have some of that type . can you post close up pictures of your bases.
 
Looks and sounds like a VZ-24 that was refurbed in Czechkoslavkia in the 1950s and someone put a lot of effort into turning her into a sniper. It doesn't look like a military conversion but overall the rifle looks quite nice.

I wouldn't pay Kar98k sniper prices for it though.
