I often will buy guns that I know nothing about, only to find out I got suckered on the deal at a later date. I will also sometimes make out good on the deal, but that is rare. Anyway a site sponsor had this gun in the EE for what I thought was a good price, so I grabbed it. Here are the particulars:

Winchester Model 70 CRF with synthetic stock, blued finish and the BOSS system installed. Chambered in 30-06.

And...it came with a 3-9 Bushnell 3500 elite scope.

The description and pictures indicate the entire setup is in mint condition. I paid $650 to my front door for the rifle and scope, did I get suckered or a deal or maybe just got a good gun for a fair price? I bought it as kind of a do it all hunting rifle and was happy that it was 30-06 as I have dies and reloading components already in that caliber (I sometimes randomly buy dies without a gun in that caliber, just because).

I think you did well. i paid 600 shipped for a push feed with a few dents and no scope, carried a lot not shot a lot. I wanted it and knew I could have waited for a better deal but it was there when I had the funds. :)

You paid less than half of new price for Rifle and Scope :)

I saw that rifle in the EE and I think it is a good deal. You cant go wrong with a model 70.

In my years here watching the EE International Shooting Sports fairly prices their guns and takes good pics; they advertise to sell. Usually their ads get SPF pretty fast.

Perhaps it's been done, but a good thread on setting the boss in the middle, developing the best load and then tuning the boss would be good fodder. And take up lots of your spare time.
The non boss one i had was adequate for hunting accuracy.

I paid $800.00 for that rifle (no scope, rings, or bases) new in a Walnut stock in 1993.

It was one of the most accurate over-the-counter rifles I ever owned. While a lot of people will ##### about the BOSS it does work as advertised if you are willing to play with it.

If yours didn't come with the non-ported muzzle weight I would suggest you find one. The ported version (brake) has probably the worst muzzle blast I have ever experienced with a braked rifle. (Don't ever shoot it with the brake installed- not even once - without hearing protection. )

Yes it is the one from International Shooting Sports, and since I said that I will point out that it has been a very good transaction too, I emailed and spoke on the phone with two different staff members who were both very helpful.

'Boo, I have read about the dangers of noise from the brake. Luckily I am super paranoid about going deaf (my Dad is deaf) so I always wear at least one layer of hearing protection at the range and slip in earplugs while hunting.
