Versa Max or Maxus

how many shots do you shoot from a good waterfoul hunt? ive been on a few dandies that had lots of shooting. 6 hunters 8 geese and 8 ducks each, plus 25 snows, that equals a lot of shooting. and a lot of cleaning

Even if your shooting is marginal, and you fired 2 shots per bird, that is only 32 shots each for the birds except for the snows. And if each person ten shots at the snows, that is still only 42 shots each. If you can't fire 42 shots out of a Maxus in one hunt without getting beat up, then the gun doesn't fit you. If you are firing more than two shots per bird, then you badly need to work on your shooting skills, and your shot selection. And if you are waiting until the birds are in range, you don't need 3-1/2" loads. Any way you look at it, if you felt beat up after the shoot you describe, it isn't because you shot a Maxus.

Best fit and feel for you that meets your budget. Both are good shotties. I don't have a Maxus, but I have a VMax that I've torture tested for over 5 years.

NEVER cleaned it and ran every shell in every size that I can in it.... right to ancient Imperial loads!

The VMax is Indestructible. It's gas port design is second to none. It is however, heavier/bulkier and not as pretty as the Browning.

You may also want to consider the Winchester SX3, another dandy shotgun.

LOL. Now I know why you think vintage field shotguns have no value if you think the versamax is a good design
Buy a Maxus it will be an eye opener for you
Even better take an old super x1 apart
Cheers

3macs1 I think you have me mixed up with someone else. My main waterfowl and turkey gun is a Maxus and I also like and own vintage shotguns. Don't personally own a versa max but from what I have read about them, they seem to have a good design. It seems its maker just doesn't know how to build it right. I bet if another maker built the same gun it would be a winner.

You are right my friend. My apologies
It is another fish member we have here

Never shot s Versamax but had a Maxus for the past few years and have been very happy with the performance. As mentioned before soft recoil, cycles well, easy to clean and it fits me well.

I got myself a versamax, but that was just after also getting our third child. So I haven’t shot it much to completely back it against any other shotgun. When it comes to recoil reduction though it’s the bees knees.

Hope to do some patterning and clay shooting with it and hopefully it lives up to expectations.
