Increased surface area for cooling the barrel maybe?

yeah those ribbs are for cooling. speaking of which it has a totaly cool cooling system it has a system that while shooting it sucks air in around the barrel and then shoots it out through small vents so you dont get handle or body overheating. the barrel is cold hammer forged. oh i didnt mention (optional) the integral red dot sight has a magnifier 1.5-3x (which oyu can remove in a min if you want). oh and the new version came out that is ambidextrous. spent casings can shoot out to the left or the right.
oh btw it might look like a famas (although the new look of the gun on their site looks more snazzy just type HS product in google) but internal workings are totaly different, somewhat similar to SCAR. and as scar it is self cleaning. it has a great recoil reduction system. oh and i counted 9 Pincatanny rails you can mount on it. so you can mount what ever your heart desires. Oh did i say it was battle proven in Afganistan ? the handle is also rejustable and removable so it can look lik famas (it has its advantages like putting 3 Pincatanny rails) or more like g 36 without the side guards on it. i think you can see it in the pics from the site i posted the address of and on the HS product site. i dn i like it now how it looks

Well the original has select fire controls and fully auto is one of them in the original, but for the markets in the US and Canada they'll have to make it semi auto i guess.
I read somewhere they made some kind of a deal with the US. Springfield arms i presume, since their hand gun is sold through them. But it might be aswell the US millitary is gona test them in bugger quantity (they have already been testing it in small batches). They just talked about some deal of the century with the americans, but i know they are keeping it hush hush for now with who exactly.

Three grand for a T-97 looking thing is bit much, when you can snag a Tavor for the same kind of change.
I am still licking my woulds from the T97 pre-order (sucks even worse for CanAm).
I'm sure it would appeal to a niche market though. How big of a market? Who knows?

If they want, they can just hold it like they're doing with the SCAR. Banning it on looks has been done before and we know it will be done again. Just look at the MKA 1919. 12 gauge shotgun that just looks like an AR-15 so therefore it is an AR-15.
