I expect most of our Canadian troops have never experienced a real war, must be shocking to face someone who has the means to fight back.

Depends on when/where they were in Afghanistan. A friend attached to Engineering in the CAF, kept getting rotated back in, 3 or 4 times total, because of the shortage of engineers. Different war every time he went. That being said, he said the most dangerous deployment he had was with DART to the Dominican in 2017 after Hurricane Maria. The country was on the brink of starvation at the best of times, and the desperation level looting that was going on after Maria, mostly disorganized, but sometimes organized by larger, armed drug gangs that were the only real centers of authority and power in the area, kept everyone on their toes.

With sonar specialist Jeremie Morizet, I piloted the submersible Limiting Factor to the wreck of the Samuel B. Roberts (DE 413). Resting at 6,895 meters, it is now the deepest shipwreck ever located and surveyed. It was indeed the "destroyer escort that fought like a battleship."
