I have 2 lbs of powder coming my way from a friend who is selling his reloading stuff. He has 1 lb of each of Vihtavuori N310 and N320. I reload 9mm and 45 ACP but have never used this powder before. Its marketed as a premium product, and sells for $10-15 more per pound than the HS-6 and Bullseye that I have now.

On their website they list equivalent powders (the N310 says it performs head to head with Bullseye, and the N320 performs head to head with Winchester 231 for example) and there are plenty of suggested load tables, but im looking to the CGN experts for their opinion on it. Thanks in advance

One of the nicest cleanest powder out there. it meters well and give consistent velocities. It is worth the extra money just for not having to clean my gun as much.

Have not used Vihtavuori in any handgun loads, but use it extensively in rifle chamberings. [N135, 140, 540, 150, 550, 160, 560, 165, 170.]

Very consistent, clean and gives very good performance in any application I have tried it.

I agree that it is worth the price. Dave.

N320 I have tested a bit with in 9mm. Good to work with, but I have not got super fast velocity out of it. Makes for a great clean softer target load. 4.1 grains @1055fps from a Shadow. Scared to use my 2 lbs up, actually scared to use my Unique powder up too!!

Well, in general, faster burning powder calls for lighter bullets to keep pressure in check. Bullet has to move fast enough inside barrel to create extra volume behind it as powder burns, and lighter bullets are easier to 'move'.
N310 is fast...

What was the bullet's weight?
Also, velocity cannot be fast, it's a number ;) Number can be high or low :)

320 is very good for both 40 and 9.

i use it for my major ipsc 40 loads , as well as for minor both 40 and 9.

vit powders meters extremely well out of both my arredondo and dillon powder bar,and like some stated, the cleanest powders available .

i use vitahuori powders(320,340,3n37,310 ) exclusively.

the VV310 is a very fast powder meant for the 45 caliber, but i've used it for my glock 17 with a 147grs fmj without any signs of pressure although you must be carefull using it with a light bullet. i'm not going to give the load i was using with the 9's, it's all about experimental, but i'm still using it .

Light? Or heavy?

Light? Or heavy?

i consider a 147 grs light since this powder is meant for 200+ .45 acp bullet weight. my load for the 9mm's 147 is at AOL 1.130 for 3.1grs of VV310.

i could go a little higher ,but i'm using this load for plinking although i might try it in minor ipsc matches soon. very, very light recoil pulse.

Wow, that's why I love this site. The knowledge here is unbelievable. Thanks for the input so far everyone.
Looks like I will be a convert to V V!! Cant wait to try it out.

LOL....did you get your coffee this morning?? 147 grs bullet is for 9mm my friend. 200+ peas are for 45 acp and 10mm's .

i've had good result with VV310 in 9mm loads. however, i'm using it only with the 147 grainers.

Interesting, I've learned to use lighter bullets with faster powders to get safe/ish pressure. 147gr bullet with N310 would be pushing it in my book. I'd not even use 147gr with N320 for Minor PF.

mine for minor (9mm) is 3.3grs of VV320 under a 147fmj at 1.130 aol and it's very sweet and recoiless.

look around, there's plenty of uspsa guys (and gals lol) using it in both production and limited major with 180grainers .

in ipsc standard class ( we shoot 40 S&W major) , i see a lot of guys running like headless chickens for international clays which is a shotgun powder.

yes, faster burning powders means pressures building up fast, but it provides a very fast recoil pulse which instills a fast muzzle flip up-down, and that is what make fast powders interesting when it comes to fast double taps.

I must be one cheap SOB. I just paid $118 for 8lbs of Titegroup. I don't think you can get 4lbs of VV320 for that price, can you?
