Visit from the RCMP re: dumped carcasses

carcasses

I would commend LEO for being reasonable and understanding the situation completely.

and

The neighbour for meeting face to face to apologise. Sounds like she's a transplant thats making an effort to figure it out.

I'd be polite give her the warning about the dangers that exist for the dog and advise her that she should keep the dog on her property buy whatever means she can. I've seen the neighbors dogs chasing deer around my family farm and would not hesitate to take them out.

I have two Great Pyrs, females though.

It is really hard to teach females to stay on your property, really hard. They are not stay at home dogs, and it does not come naturally. Without a fence or livestock to guard, they are gonna roam. Part of their nature is to hunt yotes.

As I said, mine are females and are now very good to stay home, but it has been a long time coming, and a lotta work. That said, the carcass dump here is in a line of trees 600 yards due east. I have no hope of keeping them from claiming any new parts. Yup, spring sucks here, lots of presents when the snow melts.

If sjemac is right and the Pyr is a male, they have no hope of keeping him home if there is no fence. Even livestock likely won't keep males home. Their nature is to hunt the outskirts of the herd, while the female stays close to the herd.

The males are giant, handsome, cool looking dogs. Much more handsome than the females, but really s**tty pets-because they are never home.

The owners don't have a hope here.

I've lived in the city and now in the country.

The fastest way to be judged an ignorant douchebag is to kill someone else's dog just because it wanders on to your property.

The fastest way to be regarded as a decent person and a good neighbour is to return those dogs to their owners.

Your choice. You can be a trigger-happy arsehole who your neighbours are just waiting to #### over or you can be part of a community that is more ready to help you than any city I've lived in.

Agreed..... in spite of dumping the sh1te in my neighbors mailbox I also set up a trail cam and caught the dog on my property... I then went to the township office and registered a complaint picture in hand... her doghas been on a leash or a run since....

Please note that I only did this as she was not reasonable enough to tie up her dog when I asked her to face to face first.... I don't reccomend going whining to the authorities until you try to work out your differences yourselves....

If the dog roams chain em up, problem solved

Just wonder what the out come would be if the wandering dog gets his
due by a few coyotes over at the gift pile?
Coyotes can get awfully clever at knocking down fur.

What if the farmer has warned the neigbouring dog owner, its pet will be shot if seen chasing the farm animals again?
The warning wasnt taken seriously so it was shot.
The vet bill made them tie up the dog.
Any dog or other vermin at large in the country side is shootable if even remotely a threat to livestock... that includes owls, hawks, coons, coyote, etc.

Some people live in areas where the yard needs to be protected.

I think a Pyr would be miserable if you chained it.

That might be, but a roaming/nuisance dog is a dead dog unfortunately.
IS an unhappy but live dog better than no dog? I don’t know that is up to the owner or it up to them to find the solution.

In my opinion it is also up to the owner to keep a grip on the dog difficult or not as that maybe, it’s Not up to a neighbor to make the compromise and brush off the nuisance, that does not only go for roaming but constant barking as well.

I didn't see a single place in original post to indicate the dog was doing once ounce of harm other than dragging some gutpile parts home

Lol... The bottom line is that if you chose to own a dog as I do you need to keep it on your property... Many happy dogs roam... And I don't personally have the heart to shoot someone's pet... But there are ways to deter these dog owners with fines... And of course big piles of dogchit in their mailboxes... Lmao

couldn't agree more. I don't have a dog, nor do I have property outside the city, but I can't imagine legging my dog roam free like that, it's just so inconsiderate of other people's dogs and property.

That, and I don't want my hypothetical dog to be shot.

Love the officers take on it. Probably another one of those BS write of files. Should have asked him if he wants to shoot coyotes one of his days off.

Everyone should have 1 good cop friend.

wait wait wait, are you trying to say you don't HAVE to shoot everything that wanders across your property?
What if the farmer has warned the neigbouring dog owner, its pet will be shot if seen chasing the farm animals again?

problem dog causing serious damage is one thing

a random wandering dog shouldn't equal HOLY s**t SOMETHING ON MY LAND GET MY GUN on the first sighting

my neighbour threatened to kill my dog when he broke his chain and walked down the street, all he did was walk by his yard with his kids outside.... didn't bark, didn't even look at them

so in short, some people are just a**holes and probably shouldn't have anything sharper than a spoon

At least they came by to apologize for calling the cops! I wouldn't expect a cidiot to do that. There may still be hope if you educate them about life outside the city.

I find some sausage from a hunt does well to build bridges. Just don't tear down the hedge. ;)
Good advice.
