I've lived in the city and now in the country.
The fastest way to be judged an ignorant douchebag is to kill someone else's dog just because it wanders on to your property.
The fastest way to be regarded as a decent person and a good neighbour is to return those dogs to their owners.
Your choice. You can be a trigger-happy arsehole who your neighbours are just waiting to f**k over or you can be part of a community that is more ready to help you than any city I've lived in.
I have two Great Pyrs, females though.
It is really hard to teach females to stay on your property, really hard. They are not stay at home dogs, and it does not come naturally. Without a fence or livestock to guard, they are gonna roam. Part of their nature is to hunt yotes.
As I said, mine are females and are now very good to stay home, but it has been a long time coming, and a lotta work. That said, the carcass dump here is in a line of trees 600 yards due east. I have no hope of keeping them from claiming any new parts. Yup, spring sucks here, lots of presents when the snow melts.
If sjemac is right and the Pyr is a male, they have no hope of keeping him home if there is no fence. Even livestock likely won't keep males home. Their nature is to hunt the outskirts of the herd, while the female stays close to the herd.
The males are giant, handsome, cool looking dogs. Much more handsome than the females, but really s**tty pets-because they are never home.
The owners don't have a hope here.

If the dog roams chain em up, problem solved
Just wonder what the out come would be if the wandering dog gets his
due by a few coyotes over at the gift pile?
Coyotes can get awfully clever at knocking down fur.
Some people live in areas where the yard needs to be protected.
I think a Pyr would be miserable if you chained it.
What if the farmer has warned the neigbouring dog owner, its pet will be shot if seen chasing the farm animals again?
The warning wasnt taken seriously so it was shot.
The vet bill made them tie up the dog.
Any dog or other vermin at large in the country side is shootable if even remotely a threat to livestock... that includes owls, hawks, coons, coyote, etc.
wait wait wait, are you trying to say you don't HAVE to shoot everything that wanders across your property?I've lived in the city and now in the country.

Good advice. At least they came by to apologize for calling the cops! I wouldn't expect a cidiot to do that. There may still be hope if you educate them about life outside the city.
I find some sausage from a hunt does well to build bridges. Just don't tear down the hedge.![]()
