vortex viper .......are they really unbreakable?

So how does the Votex Razor line compare to the Bushnell DMR 3.5-21X50? There appears to be some issues with the lower end Vortex scopes but what about the Vipers & Razor line?

Optically the Bushnell doesn't compare. The glass on my 1-6 razor gen 2 was much better to look through than my Bushnell dmr 3.5-21 at similar magnification levels.

I have a Viper PST 1x4 on my DDM4V9 which I use for 3 gun. I am not kind to it, I dump it in dump boxes and dump barrels all the time. It's had at least 2000 plus rds through the gun with the optic installed and touch wood it's still running strong.

I've had Vortex Optics in the past, and continue to use them. My HS-T was rock solid on a M1A and my Razor is unbeatable. You'll get lemons with any company you deal with, just don't make your decision purely on what you "hear" online. You must test this stuff in the field.

All in all, dollar for dollar, Vortex is an excellent choice.

Less than a box of 150gr .308 I had to utilize the warranty on my new Diamondback 4-12×44 bdc. The crosshairs turned about 30°. So far it's 4 weeks and counting.

I will never waste my money on another Bushnell ever again. I had a 2.5-16x44 Elite 6500 for a short time and the glass was terrible. Looking through it then my Sightron at the range at 300 yards or more was all that was needed to take it off the rifle and sell it. I've never looked through one of the DMR series scopes but I doubt they are any better than the crappy 6500 series I had that was supposed to be their top of the line.

For the price of the Vortex Razor line though I'd rather just buy another Nightforce. I have 2 NF now and they are by far my favorite scopes.

you're just jaded
...off-topic too...

I had an accident last week.
My mvp slipped out of my hand (damn gun oil and a few beers)
And it landed on the turret of my viper pst 2.5-10 ffp
I decided to shoot today.... still zeroed and consistantly 1.2 MOA. As it was before.
The top turret is bent and I cannot adjust the elevation.
I guess I will try out that fantastic warranty...

Not bad for a $1000 optic.

I will let you guys know how it goes.

cr5 I suggest taking the opportunity to get behind the new Bushnell's if ever you get a chance. They've definitely stepped their game up to get their competitive edge back in the high end LR optics arena. The 6500 was never the greatest glass and some preffered the 4200 series over it. But those scopes are dated in todays market and Bushnell knows it. The new Elite Tacticals are not competing with S&B but they are holding their own in the $1000+ tactical LR optic scene.

Vortex warranty is the best. I dropped my scope down the stairs and it broke the eyepiece off. Sent back to Vortex and new one is in the mail. Got to love that. Other then that the ViperHS was a great scope. Only problem with it was its clumsy owner. Lol.

I got an email from vortex today regarding the scope I dropped.

Very nice, they promised me updates, and said in 4-6 weeks I should receive a new scope.
(or repaired, but I don't think it is repairable) seeing as the elevation turret got smashed in...

i shoudn't of read this thread,my razor hd has black stuff on the inside of the scope.never noticed til now.sucks

Someone I shoot with had a S&B 5 - 25 X 56mm PM-II that had to be sent back due to black flakes visible in the sight picture.

It happens to the best of them.........no manufacturer is immune.

I have to make a correction to my post. I said that there was stuff on my lens. I was looking through my scope at 25yds to get close to bore alignment. This is when I saw all the black stuff on my lens. Once I got to the range and focused on 100 yds I noticed that it was the mil marks and numbers. My mistake and the scope is still ok.

Vortex is very popular for a number of reasons, and they do have fantastic warranty. As some have stated though, its a good thing as they have a high rate of returns.

I've looked through a bunch of Vortex's, and my eyes never liked them. They seemed dark to me. This isn't a shot at Vortex, again lots of guys really like their glass but for me I preferred (and went with) Zeiss and Sightron. Comparable features and price, but the Vortex just didn't seem as nice to my eyes.

Your mileage may vary. I know that considering the price, glass and features, I'd never take a Vortex over a Sightron.

I'll tell you for a fact that the return rate is 3 percent. The reports of malfunction are more a testament to the volume they sell, not breakage rate
