VP9 Torture test by Military Arms YouTube - Failed!

This firearm failed the first test which any service pistol should pass. Water entering the pistol should not cause multiple failures to fire.
I agree throwing of the pistol was a little extreme but i have a feeling a sig or Glock would have passed all these tests and fired when asked to.

For the record I currently own a VP9 and SIG P226. Have owned a Glock G21 and S&W MP9 in the past so I'm not biased just dissapointed as I feel they would both have passed these torture tests.

I do agree with him that this pistol would have failed military pistol tests.

For him, it's his CCW weapon. It is unlikely, but possible that the gun might be subject to those conditions beyond his control. And it failed. For a pistol you might barely touch for a decade, when suddenly you have to use it in defense of your life, it has to work no matter what.

I owned an HK USP for a bit. It was extremely accurate, but I was very surprised to find it having reliability problems. Minor carbon build-up behind the extractor caused frequent FTEs. This is apparently a common issue. "As long as you religiously clean the extractor channel, your USP will run like a top!" Is what I was told. And it's true.

But I don't have to clean the extractor channel of my Glock for it to do the same thing, and cleaning the extractor of the Glock doesn't require me to hammer out a rollpin...

I was already skeptical of the Legendary HK reliability, and so this wasn't a huge shocker to me. I have no doubt that the VP9 is a sweet range toy and it definitely looks awesome, but it wouldn't pass even the most basic of military testing, as much less expensive handguns will with ease.
 
Glad I didn't buy one.
I wonder how the Walther PPQ or older HK like P2000 would fare.
Even though I hate Glocks I'd probably grab my G19s in a survival scenario
 
That video is upsetting to see. I was hoping for better but they do feel cheapish compared to all my other HK pistols. I find mine very snappy to shoot. A lot more snappy then any other 9mm pistol I've ever shot. Way more than my HK P30. I still like it because it feels good and it's got the HK European thing going for it but there are more reliable guns for less money. Pretty hard to beat Glock at their own game in my opinion. It puts an HK in the masses hands for less than $1K and for a lot of people that is extremely appealing.
 
He tested 1 gun.

The magazine release would be better if it was steel. Besides that the sand/mud I have seen do that to a Glock coincidentally, so hardly a big surprise. Plus it is a commercial gun but he should do another test with different ammo and use multiple types when doing the test.
 
Made In Germany is not the same anymore.

The old era of blood-sweating Teutons who excelled at hard work and dedication towards manufacturing a worthy and over-built product is long gone. Germany was at the top of it's game in the early 20th century to the 90's. Ever since then, it seems like every German product I own isn't up to the same standard or quality. Same goes for America and pretty much all other industrialized nations who've resorted to computer design and guided machines.

You can feel the old grunt and overthought ambition in a WW2 or similar era German product. From typewriters, to cars, to pretty much anything mechanical.

Not to say Germany is toast but I don't think the popularity of German products because of their quality stands true anymore. The VP9 feels like a toy copy of a Walther with the cost-cutting measures that HK put in place. Simply compare it to a P7 or a USP of yester-year and you get the idea. I see through the HK fanboys for what they are, purely fanboys. There are better guns *cough* Glock *cough* that run circles over anything "new" HK makes. The game is up.
 
HK is not going to like that. Would be better/fairer with a couple other guns tested concurrently.
 
I like Tim's channel. I really think he just want to find a reason to buy another CCW pistol. It doesn't bother me at all because I'll never carry my SFP9 nor will drop it into water to see if it will fire. I understand his point though. A Glock will perform just fine after this battery of test but he doesn't want to carry a Glock during winter.

So besides a Glock, what pistol is CCW friendly that can endure such a hard treatment??? CCW pistol =/= duty pistol/military sidearm

Nope. People tell me it is the VP70. But I'll take my VP70 over a VP9 thanks ;-)
