I've had an appreciation of the VSS Vintorez every since Dimitri sparked my Scarlet Fever and I developed an interest in the red rifles a couple of years back. For those not familiar the VSS Vintorez it is a 9x39 Russian suppressed sniper rifle that looks like this...
So this facsimile is based on a CZ858... and as it turns out not without permanent damage to the rifle which I am curiously OK with as I have no intention of changing the rifle back to original. All work is done with hand tools in my living room... except for some 110v MIG welding in the garage.
While it's not completed yet I figure I'm about half way there. The cardboard represents some of the metal work and additional woodwork for the front stock that's still required.
The rear stock is made of 1/16" birch laminate similar to the Vinny with an AK sling loop. A few brass screw to simulate some realism to the original.
The 'barrel shroud' required an integral front and rear sight and utilizes the threaded barrel to hold it on and in place.
Front Sight made from the CZ58 front sight parts that had to be cut off.
Rear Sight utilizing the CZ58 rear sight mount parts that had to be cut off.
Compete including my questionable 110v MIG welding skills
Dust cover was made with some sheet metal, a long screwdriver, tin snips and pliers.
The magazine mod is a marriage between a Tapco 5/20 and a sacrificial CZ mag.
To make the shroud fit I had to grind down some of the features of the rifle. Time will tell if that turns out to be a good idea or not
There will be quite a bit of detail work to do yet, including figuring out the front stock, trigger guard/magwell metal work and attaching a rail for the scope, but it's starting to come together.
Best of all, when it's completed, it'll be non-restricted. Could very well be my new gopher gun
**UPDATE** due to the whole Photobucket thing all the links are gone... so rather than trying to update the whole thread here are the final results
