Vx3 versus VxIII ?

Upgraded lens coatings and a beefed up erector system. Clearer and brighter sight picture at dusk is never a bad thing...

VX111 is 2008 or prior production think it was VariX prior to that in late 80's?
VX3 is the latest version introduced in 2009 where Leupold replaced nitrogen filled with argon krypton gas and incorporated the diamond polished glass.
Although I have several Leupolds up to 56 mm objective lens I bought the LR 30 mm tube 4.5 -14 X40 last spring and it is by far the brightest crispest Leupold I own.

I'm likeing my VX3s more than my VX111s and Vari-X 111s. Optically they are better, and if the double bias springs make them track like a Mark 4 it is worthwhile for that alone. It's a little early for me to make my mind up on that call yet, since my VX3s are "set it and forget scopes"
Its not like I'm going to running out to upgrade all my leupolds to the latest and greatest, but they aren't making the old ones anymore so the new ones it is. I never really noticed that the prices are any higher, with a little digging it's not hard to find VX3s for less than the "clearance" price on VX111s. My last VX3 scope cost less than my first Vari-X 20 years ago.

Thank you gentlemen. It sounds like the improvements are significant. Better insides, better gas system, coatings, polishing, etc.

Prices are variable depending on when and where you buy.

Try to keep in mind that there are more than a couple of folks that bring in Leupold from the USA and sell them here and other places, if you decide to buy one of these, there is no warranty service available to you in Canada. FS

The warranty center can tell you've got a US scope? Indicative serial numbers, I suppose?

There's that, but there are also dealers that will piss on your back and tell you its raining.

That is most unfortunate. There are lots of used ones on the EE too. Shipping it back to the U.S. sounds like a pain, not undoable but a pain.

:jerkit: dealers ship them in from the states? you have no idea what your talking about, you can buy a leupy from Japan and send it over to any service center (CAN/USA) to have it fixed or your reticle changed NO QUESTION ASKED FOR LIFE. Give the service center here in the Okotoks a call and tell them you piked up one of there scopes 20 years ago on the moon and you left it outside for 10 and its acting up, you will get a "no problem send it in" no questions asked.

It was Korth that said that they weren't going to fix scopes that they hadn't brought in. Since they are the official distributor, and the only Canadian warranty center it is cause for concern. I don't know if they followed through on that threat, and don't know anyone who got turned down for warranty.

Well, technically, Leupold will warranty it, but Korth's doesn't have too. If it was brought in the country illegally (or not through them) they can tell you to send it to Leupold in Oregon.

Korth can make all the noise they want but in the end they work for, are contracted by, or are under licence by Leupold. Considering these are Leupold scopes NOT Korth scopes, I am confident Leupold will have the final say on what work is covered under warranty and I hope/trust Leupold is unwilling to sacrifice it's well earned reputation by leaving customers hanging out to dry.

And Leupold will tell Korth's I don't think so you work for us so fix it........ Leupold doesn't give a rats ass if it was brought into Canada through them or not, all they care about is SELLING SCOPES........ besides I highly doubt Korth's even made such a threat common really:rolleyes: do you know anyone that had a Leupold scope where Korth's wouldn't do warranty work and said it had to be sent to the States:rolleyes: I know of plenty who bought through ebay and sent theirs over to Korth's for new turrents and reticles without a question
