Made a bracket that straddles the dust cover & receiver. The rear pin was replaced with an allen bolt that passes through and pulls it all together. I still kept the forward sight spring to provide for-up pressure, and it still pivots upward for disassembly.

3 points of contact now vs. 2. the only thing I was real worried about was it taking a lateral hit and busting off. Not now.

My original plan was to use a longer rail and tie it to the forward handguard so it's one solid mounting platform, I may do that in the future.

How did you get a handle on the left hand side? I like that. I want that. :)
 
Cut, drill, tap. it was the first mod I did to this 58. It's had the same handle 'shaft', but I change the outer sleeve every few weeks or so looking for the perfect feel. I put in a threaded shaft so all I need to do is screw on a threaded sleeve and I can change it up. That one is a little 'shiny' on the end.. I made this one a little longer and filled the thread cavity with JB to neaten it up. Needs paint. When I find that perfect design it'll be welded to the shaft.

I've got a dozen or so bolt carriers coming that I'm going to do lefty handles on. Keep an eye on the EE.

Awesome. Thanks for the details. Having it on the left side would definitely make it easier for righties.

For some reason I can't get into the EE, not sure why...

you might have been flooded with pm's already, but to get access to the EE you need to read the sticky attached to the top of it, and pm the EE mod for access rights, then they have to approve you.

how hard would it be to make or attach a brass collector to the rail?

i don't want to be searching for my lapua brass in the grass:(

so to clean it, you simply undo the bolt at the rear, and the mount just hinges up at the front mount and you remove the cover and bolt assembly:confused:

sounds like the cat's arse, when can i buy 1 and how much?
 
I used to have a old brass bag that had a Pic. mount for an AR. If I still had it I'm sure it'd work on here.

And yes, it just hinges up so you can remove the dust cover & carrier.

How much? I'll let you know. I've got a guy making up a few dozen feet of steel low profile rail right now so I can make up some 'prettier' versions. I want to be able to weld it all together rather than tap/bolt like it is now.
