Why isn't there a VZ-58 pistol?

I guess I'm all alone in my fantasy gun land.... :(

Wasn't those ''VZ pistols'' part of Marstar's shipment that was reclassified from restricted to PROHIBITED last summer ?
That probably had more to do with the receivers they were built on (converted auto) than anything else. VZ pistols would be fantastic, especially if they were "commonly available".

I've one handed all my shotguns, even with slugs, but I've not tried one handing any of my rifles yet. Any Idea what 7.62x39 would be like though a pistol? Definitely want that at arms length, nowhere near the face anyway.

But I'm all for any pistol that uses the same 858 mags, and is "commonly available" ;)

If it uses 858 mags, then it will be limited to 5 rounds still. Surplus mags will not be able to be used, and new expensive ones will have to be made, which will hamper making it 'commonly available'

Besides, I would much rather see a bolt gun with 30 round mags, in 7.62x39 be made. What these fit into is of no consequence :adult:

Ceska Zbrojovka manufactured new receivers and new barrels specifically for the Canadian market. It is not a stretch for them to make a stockless short barrelled variant with new magazines. The catch is whether the market is there, but given the amount of VZ-58s in the country and thirst for lawful ten round mags, I strongly suspect it is.

Actually fairly pleasant from a 858-2 with the stock folded. A steady two hand (pistol style) grip allows for the first 3 shots to be on target (ish) after that the clumsy balance of the long barrel makes it difficult. Personally I found the recoil of no real consequence, and a better balanced model would be fun, however shortening of the barrel would certainly change recoil charactoristics for the worse. In that case I'm quite sure there are any number of muzzle brakes and compensators that would mitigate that back to a practical level.

I'd like to see it.

I THINK that isn't clooked at as a pistol because it has a folding stock/mount for a stock. If it has a stock it isn't a pistol. Thats just my understanding of why it isn't a pistol.

For the same reason that this is not considered a pistol:

I would tend to agree. Although the LAR-15 has a provision for a stock as an AR-15 it is manufactured without one and ostensibly you cannot shoulder it. The TP9 has the stock as OEM, indicating that it is intended to be shoulder fired and therefore not a pistol. The government refers to these firearms as "commercial variant". The CZ91S is another example. Since they already exist in the system as CVs it would take a fair measure of work to have a batch manufactured and marketed as a pistol to get legal ten round mags for either.
