I've been thinking about this type of scope mount for a long time. It solves all my problems with existing VZ 58 scope mounts. Namely, you don't have to remove it to clean the rifle and it gives you access to iron sights.
It replaces the rear sight on the 58. It's basically a greatly improved VZ 58 Scout mount. It's see-through, and incorporates it's own rear sight, similar to the new Sig 556's and others. The rear sight slides in a shallow channel at the rear of the mount and is adjustable for elevation. It tightens down with a screw. Dimensions are very specific as it's made to fit the Aimpoint Micro perfectly and still allow you to remove the top hand guard. Other red dots should work, like Doctor, Trijicon RMR, Bushnell TR-25, etc.
Last fall I physically mocked it up on my rifle to check dimensions and fit. Then I drew and refined it in Google Sketchup. After being burned for over $3000 on Type 97 mounts, I have no desire to make this mount myself. That being said, I would really like to see this mount in production. If you guys like it, say so. Perhaps one of our board manufacturers would take on the project.

Here's the mock up I did up to check dimensions. I made it out of an old scout mount, pieces of a Type 97 mount, cold weld and cardboard.
This one sits about 1/4 inch higher than the final design. Height above the bore for the unit shown in the Sketchup photos is actually lower than an Aimpoint micro in a Larue tall mount on an AR 15.
