I am thinking about getting into the VZ58 Fever. I have been researching and it looks like most shooters prefer to mount a red dot optic on the upper, railed handguard of their rifle and I found that NEA, FAB, etc. are excellent choices.
I intend to mount a 1X4 optic on the top of the receiver, but it looks like the mounting options are very limited.
Can any VZ 58 veteran guide me on this before I needlessly start spending and wasting money by trial and error?
THANKS!

CSA low mount for me. Excellent but you need to buy the side rail as well.
Zahal has them and they are easy to deal with.

I have a mil-spec railed dust cover for one of my VZs. I ordered it some time ago from the Czech Republic without any shipping or customs issues.

It is rock-solid and holds zero no matter how many times you strip the rifle. It can be removed as quickly as the original stamped cover. It is Czech-made by Antonin Zendl.

Nice piece but the price, almost $500, that's the price I paid for my VZ few years ago.

K-C, how much did you pay for yours with shipping?

Yes, it was expensive - certainly due to the very high European labour rates but I couldn't get it anywhere else. It is world-class fit & finish in every way.

My total cost was just under CAD $450. That was about 2 years ago when the exchange rates were more in our favour.

As for my rifle costs, they were about $830 each (total cost) from Wolverine.

This Railed Cover was the one essential item which I felt was important enough to drop some "heavy coin" on. It allows me to use any of the modern red dot sights or compact optics like an ACOG.

Check out the one from a site sponsor. Cheaper, onsale and free shipping.

These didn't exist when I ordered my Railed Cover from GunExpert. However, my son owns one of these units from Zahal and he was not happy to find out that it bolts down to the receiver on both sides. As a result, there is no quick access to the Bolt & Carrier Group as there is with the original cover or the GunExpert model. He has to use a hex key to get the Zahal cover off. So you need to always ensure that you carry a hex key with the rifle which is a "pita"!

I can see it being more difficult to remove, but for the $215 savings, I could adjust! :)

I actually keep a couple keys in my forgrip anyway, so that isn't an issue either.
