Vz-58 Vs Ar??

It almost sounds like you're one of those people who feel that the 1873 model SAA is left handed in design,I know you didn't say that ,and I don't mean to Hi-jack this thread.but just cuious about VZ's right now.Agree with most of what you said ,but being lefthanded,what about the VZ is lefthand??

It seems to me that a left-handed shooter could operate the VZ58 quicker and more efficiently than a right-hander. The L/H shooter could keep his left hand on the pistol grip at all times, using the right hand to do the mag change and close the bolt. Whenever I watch someone operating a VZ in a match (or on the various video's doing the rounds), it always looks awkward when they are doing a mag change and closing the bolt.
 
I find it odd that nobody has made more than a passing comment about reliability. Is there any feedback from anyone who has used VZ-58's in battle? I'm sure it's not on par with the AK, but is it better than the AR?:D

You have not watched me at a match then,as I recall I am in the top five and I do not have an AR.I am right handed but I could start shooting left to give you a chance(in hell) to beat me.

FWIW we had a number of mags seperate -- leaving the "locking collar" portion of the mag in the magwell and the mag body and rounds all over the ground.

I prefer the CZ-58 to the AK -- just wish it had a better stock, pistol grip - and you need new mags and swap them out more regularily than M4 mags...


BTW a US SF 18B I know working in Czech - said the gov't was selling the CZ-58's off (they donated a ####load to the Afghan gov't) to fund M4 purchase for the entire Army (he was over helping certain units transition)...

I own both and prefer my ar-15 although I do think highly of vz-58. I can't remember when I had a FTF in my ar-15 or vz-58 so it's not an issue for either rifle. The ar-15 is much more accurate, faster to reload and the .223ammunition is much lighter than the 7.62x39. I'm aware of the "stopping power issues" that associated with 5.56 in the m855 ammuntion. The ammuntion weights twice as much in 7.62x39 compared to .223 ammunition. Not to mention having 2.5 times the effective range of 7.62x39. For that reason if stopping power was an issue I would get a hold of the mk-262 ammuntion or some other 77 or 75 grain ammuntion that seems to be performing very well out of the 14.5" barrels and even better in the 20" platforms.

I have both but prefer the AR,you cannot beat the ARs's ergonomics,adaptability and acuraccy. The CZ is an interesting plaything,but nothing more,the 7.62x39mm cartridge is pretty much anemic with poor penetration and intermediate range performance,but a fun shooter none the less.

OK I should have said allmost allways in the top 5 and I was using my vz58.It needs a longer stock and a better grip.I have my mini back up and running now so I will be gtg for the next match.My mag changes still kick ass though.
