vz-58 vs. cz-858

So... Ive been thinking of getting a red rifle, looking at the cz 858 or the csa vz. 58. I know the cz comes with 4 mags for around 700, but the csa has 2 mags and costs 900.

So, whats the diffrence?
 
What about the internals- i asked csa personally if there 18.6" rifles are chrome lined and they say no :-/.
Any other info on the internals?
 
I had to make the same decision only a month ago or so. I read every thread I could find on both and looked at every picture I could search. At the end of the day I decided that I wanted a really nice looking, quality feeling rifle I could keep for a long time so I went with the CSA... it looks every bit as well built and finished as any high end rifle. The machining and anno (or whatever its finished with) is perfect and it was available with black plastic hand guard, grip and M4 style stock. Which I was going to add anyway. By the time i figured in upgrading the wood parts to plastic the price was getting pretty close anyway. I didnt like that it only came with 2 mags, that was a downside. But after getting it and shooting it, im REALLY glad I spend the extra $$ on the nicer finished gun. Mine is perfect. Im going on 1000 rounds now with not one issue or jam or anything. I keep it clean and it runs perfect.

Just my opinion, but spend the extra $$ and get the one that looks and feels better. Its worth it.
 
the csa vz 58's have the "trigger gremlin" fix welded on the bolt carriers......cz 858's don't.
i have both and after 3 or 4 thousand rounds thru my cz 858....i have yet to experience the dreaded "trigger gremlin"......also the receivers on the csa vz 58's are thicker and pre tapped for a side rail scope mount (if you are handy with a drill press/tap...its very easy to install csa side rail on cz 858)

all in all i have both...they both shoot excellent...csa definitly looks better.......but for extra 300.00......it doesn't look that much better, so its your choice....300 bucks can go a long way on cool parts....rails, stocks ..etc.. if you are on a budget :)

as far as internals...both are exactly the same as far as parts inside......ask dealer about chrome barrells

also keep a big can of wd 40 around after shooting cheap czech ammo, drench barrel and barrell opening at receiver, gas piston, and remove bolt for a good drenching......sounds like a lot of work, but it isnt. Czech ammo is corrosive and if left uncleaned after shooting..will corrode barrell. the wd 40 neutralizes the corrosive salts in the primers. :)
 
i have a 858 , i love it , personally the gremlin show it some time but like 1-2 time on 1000 round

went some people are trying it they are not releasing the trigger enough and cause the gremlin , but i have not prob with it i know my gun

maybe a day i will buy a second , bu it will be a csa

+1 ^^ I tried all of the VZ 58 models, and I prefer CSA..

Its not just czech ammo thats corrosive. Its most of the cheap surplus and, just to dispel a rumour, WD40 doesnt neutralize the salts... water does. WD40 only coats the over the salts and stops air from getting to them which prevents the rust. The salts are still there and the gun should still be cleaned properly.
 
Some Obvious differences:

1. bbl length offerings. ( non restricted generally don't have chrome-lining)
2. beaver barf (cz) vs nice fitting and finished synthetic stock (vz)

Non-obvious differences. ( internals)

-Internally there is a block covering part of the pins on the left hand side of the vz58 which doesn't exist on the cz.
This limits how you can mod with NEA/Zahal controls.

-My experience is that even the controls are different, safety of cz .... to fire, pull safety towards you.
safety of vz...to fire, push safety away from you.

- There's a lock that flips up and down which catches over some of the internals in the cz.
You won't be able to drift some of the pins without flipping up this "flange lock" thing.

- Minor but the spring quality on the cz I had was better... a lot stronger with more coils.
 
Canada Ammo has a CZ 858 with 1200 rds of non-corrosive for the same price as my WSS which has a CSA VZ58 (no ammo, in .223) in stock. Both $899........

Big desicions.....................
 
My next purchase is going to be one of these. After handling the CZ858 I really couldnt get over how bad the finishing looked on it. And like the previous pposter mentioned was that after I add the new grip and poly furniture I'd be at nearly the same price as the VZ. So even though the VZ is restricted, thats the price I'm willing to pay to have a nicer looking rifle.

Its a matter of finding them for sale though. In another thread they were saying the NR VZs were supposed to have been for sale in August,and we're still waiting.
