VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

I have a quick question - not intended as a slag, a serious question :)

I see alot of the newer pics of Czech forces in war zones using black zytel(?) stocks on their VZ58's. What advantage would this give over the wood impregnated resin used for the original stocks? The folding stock, I get. I even get the newly remanufactured ones with the black plastic overmolded cheek rest. They make sense. But what putpose does switching the stocks out for zytel serve other than to make the gun look black?

I agree it looks zombie-killing cool, but I doubt the Czech military cares too much about Gucci Gear.

Finally, the modular HG that Palinak sells:

I note it is made with fiberglass reinforced composite (sounds ALOt like Zytel to me) - is this as durable as, say, a machined aluminum setup? Is an Aluminum Mil std. 1913 rail compatible product alternately available?

durable

I have one - tough as nails, lighter than the aluminum one made by brugger (WHICH WILL SET U BACK ALMOST WHAT U PAID VOR THE RIFLE):50cal:

also - the standard fore end loosens up with with use - the infratek stays tight (adjustable) - the rails allow attachements for handy gear - and I found my 858 shoots more consistently with it cause of the tightness - I get 3 rd. groups of half inch at 100 yds and one and a half inch at 200 - consistently -( but I have a bubble level on the rail , 2 moi red dot , bald eagle rest , and I sort the wolf ammo by batching it according to similar O.A.L. and weight [digital powder scale] - sometimes get called flyers cause of the extremely crappy trigger - have to work it real slow . For the money the infratek is the best forend out there - and no I dont work for paul - LOL

ok, but why do so many czech army pics of VZ58's have this stock:

It seems to me it offers no advantage over the original stock aside from looks?

the wolverine one attaches better so it shouldnt loosen up as easily but I have heard they are brittle and the molded picattinny rails crack
