VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

I saw an interesting all black 858 at wholesale sports today. Looked the same as the regular 858-2 but had Black plastic furniture and black metal parts. $800 price tag, so I don't think it was customized. Has anyone seen an other one of these.

I saw one here too, thought it was the CSA sporter.

What are good mag pouches for the VZ? I had voodoo tactical Ak mag pouches but the flaps (or covers) just kinda barely make it over the mags, barely close.
I need something deeper I guess

First post and I just spent a looong time scanning this unbelievably detailed (long) thread.

I just purchased a csa vz 58 Sporter (black synthetic stock & grip, etc) and I'm realizing that this is not as straightforward as most AR platforms. When ordering magazines, will the cz 858 fit or not? When ordering the stripper clips (which I've never seen before but only heard references to) will any 7.62 x 39mm fit, or are there certain ones that are more effective?

I have yet to watch all 200 youtube videos listed in the OP but if there are ones that stood out as especially useful for cleaning/maintenance, some advice would be appreciated. There is "almost" too much information here!

Feeling very ignorant at the moment...be gentle.
thanks

Thanks, is it just me or is everything sold out (mags, ammo, rails for the csa?) Perhaps I've been looking in the wrong places? Though I did get some ammo from Wolverine.

Ok, had the time to take it apart finally.
Pin #27, which releases the "Receiver Cover" would not budge. I tapped it with something harder than my thumb and it did pop out (all the way out). It no longer stays in the slot it came from; it falls out when you hold the rifle sideways. The pin appears to have a slight bend but I don't know if it should be straight or perhaps the bend was meant to hold it in place by creating tension? Has anyone else had this issue or have I broken something inadvertently on an idiot-proof gun?
thanks,
