VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

Is the .223 "safe" to buy now, so should I stick to the 7.62 x39? I like the .223 round a bit better, but the jamming problems are a turn off.

Well, I bought one. So far so good. 200 rounds or so, and no failures of any kind. It was made in 2015, and it's extremely well finished. Quite happy so far..

I'm interested in a muzzle break for a .223 CSA 858 Sporter.

Can anyone give me the lowdown on what I would need? I'm thinking the regular Corwin Arms stuff wont work, I'd need one specifically in 556 or what have you.

12 coats of 1K Clear and some custom stain mix and some red dye. :) :p Sanded with 400 between coats

I left it at the shop to dry overnight. will install tommorow

Hey guys i got a csa muzzle brake for my cz858 but i noticed it does not time fully on the threads. It fits ok and it engages the detend pin but its not 100% tight and has some wiggle. It will not turn down any more on the theads. What do?

Question for you gentleman...... got me a Czech arms in 7.62 not long ago and I have found that the gas piston is binding up in the gas port, if I rotate it as I work it back and forward I can find a sweet spot to where it will function smooth but this can not be good right ?

Either your piston is bent or possible that your gas block is out of alignment. Mine did this and turned out to be a bent piston due to over gasing.

The Gas block dose not appear out of alignment but I don't know . I have been lookin at gas pistons on eBay and would like to try a new one to see if it is as you say a "bent piston". how did you deal with this issue ?

Roll your piston on a flat counter and see if it is bent. If it is I would just replace it. If your gun shoots casing into space then you will need to probably send it to Movie arms or a gunsmith that understands the over gasing issue. The holes on your gas block will need to be drilled slightly bigger to reduce the pressure in the the block. You could do your self but If you over do it the gun will not cycle correctly. Hope that helps.
