VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

i saw one at the royal sportsman. call alec

Going to get one today!

Youre my hero now powerwagon.

My hearts going, dont think ive been ever so excited over a new gun...
This things just so damn ###ay.

Oh i got tons of ammo kicking around........milsurp chinese copper wash, norinco green box, hungarian, wolf hollowpoints, czech surplus ........

Too bad, only the wolf is non-corrosive and i cant get anymore!

Mind you, taking this thing apart is as easy as an sks which i thought was impossible for any gun that would be of "higher" grade.

Funny going to that place for the first time, royal sportsman. The old man there was cleaning an SVT and started pointing out and talking about this gun. He somehow claims the barrel is chrome lined which it isnt.....says he could shoot matchboxes at 100 with it. Meh, no biggie ill humour him for what its worth. I like his PTRD on the wall. Pulls out some 14.5 mm ammo, starts talking about that...then we getinto the bayonet on this 858. Im all like, i love any gun with a pigsticker.
He starts going on about his old days and how effective a bayonet is. Then he mentions how hes used one and what he remembers most is the expression on a persons face when they get stuck.

Interesting old russian fellow. Nice stories. :p

Im ecstatic.

My visa isnt.

No regrets.

I noticed something and its a minor thing, but im curious.

Some front sights hoods are the 3/4 circle style a la AK, while some front sight hoods are full circle a la SKS.

Mine is full circle, my buddies is 3/4 circle.

Anything noteable on why they made 2 types? Earlier/later manufacture? Or anything?

I would have prefered the 3/4 myself but ahhhhhh well.

There's also two types of front sling loop and two types of magazine releases. Minor design modifications. If I had to guess, I'd say the full hood front sight, narrow mag release and "T" shaped front swivel came first.

I am not fond of guns whos front posts are zeroed way off centre within the front sight hood. Throws me off. Anyone else find this annoying? Sure if you take some time to aim shots its fine, but if you want quick aquisition on multiple targets i naturally centre it in the hood. IF the post is way off i have to re-align. Doesnt take much but its annoying.

Get a red dot, it makes the world of difference as far as speed is concerned.

Yah i got one of those, dont use it much. Still like shooting irons, keep my eyes good and sharp.

I really dont want to alter my CZ to much...im too fond of its original "ak" styling without high tech gizmos hanging off.

Tonight I was looking at my sons AK sidefolding pellet rifle and decided to try something, I took the AK pistol grip off his and put it on my VZ, perfect fit!And I put the VZ pistol grip on his. I think Ill order a plastic AK grip in black as well as a black plastic AK stock (Ill have to do some drilling and cutting though for the stock)

I like shooting with irons too, but not as much as with the red dot, but when it comes to speed the red dot just can't be beat. My CZ still has the original look, it only takes two seconds to take off the red dot complete with it's mount.

PS post a pic !
