VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

None of the spec sheets load tonight - I wanted the diagram of all the components...where can I find it?
What I really need to know is how to remove the lower front handguard - I want to paint all my wood pieces, and I have the stock, pistol grip, and upper handguard off, but cannot get the bottom off...do you tap out the roll pin?
I was going to paint the wood black or green, but now am thinking of doing a rubberized bed liner coating instead...what do you guys think?

the lower handgaurd comes off by drifting out the pin at the end of it and pulling the bottom wood off. Having gone the bedliner route, I suggest you use good liner and/or prime the peices properly. I ended up going back to original just for that commie-esque look and feel

Here’s a smaller version of one of the schematics:
vz58_01_iso_skematics.jpg

It’s smaller because photobucket automatically reduces pic size to a max allowed.
The full-size pic was hosted on vz58 dot net courtesy of palinak,
where he added one more schematic I think.
Those pics didn’t work today because his server was down,
there was no electrical power in Lougheed Mall area of Burnaby.
The reason, I can only guess, is that he tried again to put Christmas lights
on his 58’s. Or something like that. Otherwise he’s a nice guy:D

For those who PM’ed me asking what language is that in the schematic: Finn.
A couple of on-line dictionaries (I hope these links still work):

Bolt Hold Open Device

Hi guys,

Just bought a CZ858 from ARDENT. Really nice rifle. One question I have is why cannot I get the bolt forward if there is an empty magazine inserted? Is this a safety feature (I mean for the guy weilding it in a fight)?

Also is there a sticky on the disassembly of this rifle?

Best regards,

Teapot

It's called a bolt hold open feature, very useful in combat.
When you have an empty mag and change it, you only have to pull the bolt back a bit and then let it slide home automatically chambering a new round from the fresh mag.
Also, it's a visual indicator to the operator that the mag is indeed empty and not some malfunction.
