VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

Removing stocks

To answer the PM, and for the new 58ers here:

Remove the butt plate. The bolt that retains the stock is on very tight. The first time I removed a stock I used a very long flat tip screw driver and and combination wrench on the handle. Others have used tire irons. I later made this T-handle tool.

The forestock is removed by pressing out the small pin at the rear of the guard and lowering it out of the receiver.

+1 on the tire iron. Wow was it ever tight!

Also a question for the board. How come wolverine's parts kits don't come with a barrel yet the kits in the states (priced the same) do?

Also why is a 3 euro mag, $35 Canadian!?
And don't tell me it's a 5 cent pop rivet...

My family in CZ have offered to send me a wooden stock for my CZ858, I have never seen one, but they swear this stock is just incredible. Anyone have any feedback on the wooden stocks? Thanks,
Joe:)

Yeah, I'd like to see some pics of that stock also.

On another note, I saw about 5min of the show called 'The Unit' tonight and it looked like some of the bad guys had VZ58's.

On ANOTHER note, how long you guys think the current LOW price of 7.62x39 will continue for?

I think there is quite an abundance of Czechoslovak army surplus ammo still available.
And since they are not allowed to sell to the domestic civilian market it all goes for export.
On another note from what I was told by one of my Czech suppliers, CZ-UB is not producing any more 858s Tactical or Tactical-2. So unless something changes and they do another run we might not see anymore new ones any time soon. CZ-Hermex has no plans in stopping their assembly of the CZH-2003 and CZ-Praga is making long barrel versions so we might have those here instead for the non restricted market.

Here it is Gentlemen, I would be grateful for any input. It is still at my family's place, and if I change my mind they will be able to use it. Thanks,
Joe:)

Lieberals at it again. Take note.

The Liberal Party of Canada is holding its' Liberal Leadership and Biennial Convention in Montreal from November 28th to December 2nd. Two of the policy resolutions to be debated and voted upon are very relevant to firearm owners.

It will be interesting to see how they are dealt with. But, regardless, it shows that the federal Liberals have not changed their mindset regarding firearms ownership in Canada.

Resolution #42: Automatic and Semi-automatic Weapons
WHEREAS automatic and semi-automatic weapons are illegal for hunting purposes; and

WHEREAS automatic and semi-automatic weapons do not support the hunting culture found in all parts of Canada;

BE IT RESOLVED that the Liberal Party of Canada urge the Government of Canada to support legislation to eliminate the personal use of automatic and semi-automatic weapons.

Resolution #47: Gun Control
WHEREAS the cancellation of the gun registry is part of the Conservative Party’s program; and

WHEREAS the Conservative government has started to slash into the registry by ending requirements to register long guns; and

WHEREAS police forces have continually supported the gun registry and spoken out against efforts by the Conservative government to weaken or end it; and

WHEREAS the continued support of police forces for a total gun registry is a strong indication of the capacity of the current system to reduce the harm caused by guns; and

WHEREAS certain dangerous weapons are not found on the current list of illegal weapons; and

WHEREAS it is necessary to continue to effectively control the possession and use of guns;

BE IT RESOLVED that the Liberal Party of Canada take the necessary steps:

1. to counter the efforts by the Conservative government to end or reduce the scope of the current gun registry that was enacted by parliament several years ago;

2. to review the classification of guns so that semi-automatic weapons be classified as an illegal weapons; and

3. to enact more severe laws to better control the possession and use of guns.
