Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

I am going to try to ask this again, since I didn't get any responses last time and am still curious: Does anyone know the reason or history of why there are two different front sight shroud configs (full and half open)? Did they change over at a certain year of production?
 
Any news on new 58's arrivals?
i have a 858 but i also want a 58 so i can wait for the next day to clean it.

you guys know the catch about the 858.

Yep, but keep in mind the recoil on the 858 is much more then the AR15 they are supposed to go on. I had it start to bend the front barrrel mount and move forward due to the recoil of the 858, so I had to come up a funky home depot plumbing parts setup to stop the M203 launcher from moving forward. 1/2" threaded pipe, I think it was 3" long, with a 1/2" to 3/4" adapter on one end. I had to take off the front sight (not easy), slide her all together, re-attach the front sight, then loosen the 3/4" adapter until it's pressing against the launcher and the front sight. The 3/4 adapter will be contacting the front of the M203 receiver, not the barrel band, so will provide much better support so it doesn't move forward.

It doesn't seem to move the front site at all, it held zero for the whole EESA open house.

After sitting in the safe for nearly two years I've finally got my CZ out to the range on two occasions thusfar this summer.

Though I'm usually not a rifle-pimping type of shooter, I think that a muzzle break is in order to facilitate seeing whether a deer or coyote has been hit and to follow up on them if required. I also think that I'll get one or two shorter mags and a folding stock, making the CZ my handy rifle for hiking, driving deer in thick cover, or having handy for unexpected situations. This is one practical rifle!

SKS's are fine for lots of occasions, but cannot compare to a CZ for all around handiness and fun.
