Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

Will give a step by step as it were,

Hamered out the front sight pins,use a good pin punch.The front sight housing is on very tight,a paded vice and a block of wood worked well.
Next I figered out how far back to go with the barrel chop,used a hacksaw and ground it as square as I could see,left a good 1/4" long.I mounted the receiver in a independent four jaw chuck on the lathe,barrel suported on a live center.Took the barrel down flush to the gas block and threaded 1/2x28 as I did not have metric on my lathe.I then trimed barrel to length and recrowned.
To reinstall the front sight housing I tapped the hole ware the bipod locks in to so I could use a set screw to get the alinement right,went to range and sighted in,thighted set screw went home to drill pin holes.The pins are 3mm in diamiter so you need a 2.9mm drill or you can make new pins,put in tapered pins.Finished barrel lenght is 11 3/4".

before you spend alot of money shipping an entire rifle back and fort to fix a simple problem of the gremlin, ask wolverine to ship you the parts , its very easy to replace... now, should that not work then ship them the rifle.
 
Just to give you guys an update, I shipped my 858 T2 off to Wolverine today. The rifle I bought was actually sold through Lever Arms in a coop deal with Wolverine, and they still helped me out even though I was the second owner.

I was required to pay for shipping to get the gun to them (cost me $26) and they will fix it up and send it back to me for free. THATS what I call service. I recommend Wolverine to anyone who is thinking about getting an 858...I should be getting my 858 (and hopefully fixed) in 2 weeks give or take! :rockOn:
 
So if you're the second owner, Potatos, I take it the first buyer never had the problems you're experiencing? Or did he/she "neglect" to tell you about them?
 
He, would be Drake who posted just before you. He had never shot the rifle, so he didnt know. No hard feelings there. And in the end, this is only costing me $25...it could be a lot worse. Its a bit of a pain in the ass, but thats life. I should probably buy a muzzle brake while Im waiting, since the rifle isnt going to be here for a while...

Let me try to word that better,the front sight housing is butting up to the gas block.There is a good 3" of barrel in front of the gas port.

works 100% with ball ammo.

I am new to this site and to guns in general. I have had my PAL for 1.5 yr and bought a cz858 right off the hop cuz its beautiful. I am most accurate with open sites with this cz above any other gun i shoot so far. I love it also cuz its light and easy to dissassemble.

I would like to buy a second one in order to throw a bunch of fancy accessories to make it crazy looking...all black, with fold up stock, red dot sight, synthetic type grips or quad rails, and flashlight.......

this being said I read through the forst 20 pages on this thread and am exhausted and overwhelmed. Any tell me where cheapest and best place to get red dot sight or scope?
