Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

Shot my 858 for the first time today. Must say that i was pleasantly surprised. Certainly worthy of trying on whitetails next year. Biggest crime is the 30 round mag pinned to 5 rounds.
 
I got my CZ 858 2 weeks ago, and shot this 60 yard bench rest group yesterday, I was pretty surprised at the accuracy, best part is I can take it to the deer camp.:rockOn:

The Palinak brake seems first rate. I prefer the Marstar unit as it is used by the military. I completely love having a brake on a 58. Without one, the muzzle rise slaps my cheek pretty good. The Marstar brake (and there are others) have top vents to keep the barrel down.

I prefer the military brake also for looks, but the Infratek that Paul sells is more effective at keeping the muzzle down . I use it for 3 gun matches. :dancingbanana:

Thanks Deckard, I think I'll try the mil spec one first and then experiment if I don't like it.

Anyone know who makes these? Are they custom. I know I should just PM him but hoping posting here is faster.

Our 58s came with flash hiders. Kasat does good work and is one of the pioneers of 58 tinkering. He does make muzzle brakes and others like in the photos are more suppressor type.

In my books a 58 brake has to prevent muzzle rise. Otherwise it becomes uncomfortable.
 
marstar.ca versus vz58.net versus dlask.com. The first two are more effective, but some like the AK slant type. I don't. The main thing is that they aim to kep the barrel down in rapid fire, or use the gas to pull the rifle forward so it has less recoil. However, they end up making the rifle louder, so wear ear protection.
 
I think I have to step in right here. The main objective of a true muzzle brake is to reduce the pressure of the exiting gases and force them to hit the inner baffle(s) pushing the entire firearm forward thus counteracting recoil. The best recoil reducing brakes are the so called quick discharge brakes which have 2 , 3 , or 4 baffles with large side openings to redirect as much gasses as possible sideways.
These are extremely loud and as such are no good for hunting , the blast is terrible. You also have to be careful using them at the range with other shooters nearby.
The best general purpose ones that I experimented with are the ones with 2 or 3 stages inside. In plain language the inside diameter gets smaller in 2 or 3 stages towards the front of the brake.

Actually no, but I'm looking for an answer to a question that John needs to answer. Since I know he uses the search button for Marstar references, I have a good chance to get a prompt reply.

Q: What is the status of the 58L? I can't seem to see it anywhere on your website.
