VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

Before with all the INFRATEK TACTICAL mods: AR15 Stock Adapter, Tactical railed Handguards ( Found them too high to use with iron sights ) PG 3 Pistol Grip, Brake....

Then I realized its not a AR15 so, I put it back to this, Range Blaster. Thats the PG3 Grip with the finger grooves milled off and painted. Real wood handguards and the factory folding stock with brake.

yea too bad its no good for a lefty/ambi guy like me.

Actually I found that the VZ58/CZ 858 etc is actually meant for Left Handers.

Cocking handle is on the right side, so with your left hand still on the grip you can #### it. Also I find it easier to use the safety catch with the left hand. I'm soo used to AR15's with selector catch on the left side and same with the cocking handle...

Ambi safety Marshall. :runaway:

I think I can do it. New lever with a press on or clamp on lever out the left side. No gunsmithing required but alot of machining for what it is. I am right handed so this gets bumped on the priority list as well;) Didnt get to the range this weekend, (had to work on Sunday:() I have a full day planned for Saturday and I am making progress on the goose neck.

Side note about the can, I haven't removed my front sight yet but isn't it machined down?

I tried but not succeeded. Pins came out easily , moved it around the barrel axis but no way I could move it forward or backward. My guess: the paint should go before it can be moved.

From what I understand the sight post is fully removable, but you're gonna have to really crank it down the barrel because of the paint thickness.....

Maybe make a clamp on sight post? :D

I am getting the impression that the side-mount scopes/dots are not lefty friendly. Does this mean a scout style mount is my only option? And if so, only with the mods to be able to pull the top guard off without pulling the optics?

do the scout mount and mod your upper handguard.

I have no complaints so far, but this setup wont work for you if you plan on using a long scope.... I use an eotech and it fits nicely.

i should explain why i want a vz58L bcos one of them will be converted to a dragunov so ofcos the more accurate one.

That's it though, final offer. Get it while it's hot too. I might change my mind.
