VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

    Votes: 1,507 70.4%
  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

    Votes: 407 19.0%
  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

    Votes: 166 7.7%
  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

imagine the muzzle flash on that shorty? :D

Are you still gonna be getting those in Palinak?

planning......but they are different then the ones in the pics ....those are CZH2003Ss "Defender" they are the same as the current CZH "aka VZ58S or L" from Hermex and can be imported by the current supplier.

Service Life

Got about 4 crates of czech milsurp and wolf thru one of mine (858) - still accurate -(never did let the barrel get to hot) :)

I got the gremlin on my brand new CZ after 40rds. After careful examination, the striker is engaging as its suppose to but this lump of the bolt carrier is not engaging the disconnector and is not reseting the trigger during the cycle. Is the bolt carrier heat treated and is it okay to weld this area to increase it? It seems to be machined previously and seems worn. Even by controlled hand operation, it does not engage.

What's the percentage of CZ 858's getting this gremlin?
Is it the early ones from Marstar or the newer ones from
Wolverine? It is starting to read that it is a high number
problem. When you pay $650.00 for a rifle you don't usually
expect it to FU so quickly,Mine has 400 rds thru it now,
How soon until it craters.LOL

its not a lump, its a ramp that rides over the disconnecting sear (SD). ... also its not on the right side as shown in your pic, its on the left side .

since yours was brought brand new , i would not recommend you try fixing it yourself, simply you shouldnt have to cos its new, no buyer should have to, contact wolverine (no matter where you bought it) and maybe they will send you a new beefy type of SD ...... it seems so silly to me this problem still persist , cant they replace the SD with the new type before shipping??

I have had another project come up so I have sent out the drawings to a buddy's shop for quoting. I will have the finished goose neck in aluminum in 1-2 weeks depending on price negotiations. For those of you that are interested I will have something for tryouts at the EESA blast off shoot.

My VZ 858 tactical should be arriving from Wolverine in the morning.:dancingbanana::dancingbanana:I have a couple of questions about some of the accessories. Can you just install the upper railed (tactical) handguard, or do I have to install the lower one as well (matched)?
The other question involves the folding stock. Will installing the folding stock place the gun as restricted due to the shorter OAL? I know these questions might sound silly, but I've read through the WHOLE thread, (yes every post:eek:) and I can't find any mention of it anywhere. Thanks in advance,

-Jason

No, the folder won't make it under 660mm.
Double check with member palinak to make sure.

......I've read through the WHOLE thread, (yes every post:eek:) ......

Did you also read the posts where a member (I don't remember his name) was threatening everybody
that he was going to make a romanian style pistol grip????
Well, guess what?
He spend the winter in his cave
in front of the computer
and he didn't do f-all :D

I went through about 300 rounds today up at Stave lake with my vz58L...

What an awesome rifle. Just wish we had full capacity mags :(

ps, anyone else hate the smell of corrosive ammo? The stuff stinks.

Hahaha! Absolutely bud! I shot off about 200 rounds today with a buddy, near Shawnigan Lake.

The smell is something I definitely need to learn to appreciate. I'm almost done my first crate of ammo.

The weather's getting nice out here eh? It was pretty warm outside, I was up there in a t-shirt. It was also snowing. And I was QUITE comfortable.

Gotta love the weather on the coast.

Yeah man at stave lake it snowed, then it hailed, then it rained for 5 minutes, then it was sunny.
