VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

the difficulty with it is not so much in the welding, as the fact that the tab must be heat treated so it does not mushroom from striking the disconnector.
I agree that wolverine or someone else should start modding them for you folks to fix the problem once and for all.

no but as a general rule an annealed steel part strikeing another steel part will mushroom over time.

mushroom? striking? what the heck are you talking about ? it more likely to wear down on the flat part then mushroom .

the sear disconnect just ride up and down , it doesnt strike .

im gonna try silver solder with high temp silver , if it works then i will braze it after.

btw obi , stay away from the mushroom . :D just kidding .

nope u.s. import we cant import rifles that have bayonet lugs and have to have barrel extensions added to bring it to 16"

o.i.c. the reason why i said airsoft cos the color isnt right and way too shinny so is the presto log but most of all , the bottom plate of the mag looks weird and lock can not be seen .

quite often i admire what you got down there but removing bayo lug isnt one of them .:p

Is that a full auto? And what's the logic behind "no bayonet"? You can have full capacity magazines but God forbid you should be able to attach a pig stabber?

its part of thier anti-assault rifle evil look thing , i dont understand it myself but vz dont look too bad , on a SKS its looks aweful .

I am asking because my safety lever points to the back when in Semi Auto mode and downwards when in Safe mode. This one seems to be pointing forwards so I though it was a third, Full Auto mode.

dont mean a thing , mine also face forward to the "30" but its a dummy position . :(

On a completely different subject, I contacted Czechpoint USA about buying one of their bolt carriers that has the welded tab ....

...They said that they won't sell outside of the US. Too bad as that takes care of the VZ gremlin 100%.

Obiwanbonjovi was thinking of making them but apparently he was told that the welded tab is a patented repair mod and he has given up the idea.

How can someone patent a welded piece of metal that is attached onto an already patented device?

And if they aren't willing to sell them to us, can't we make our own overhere?

Who has a MIG or TIG welder and wants to get on this?

So would just changing the carrier fix the gremlin problem or would other internal parts need to be added?

I have been pondering this for some time, studied the mechanics of the rifle, read up on it and the conclusion is inescapable (as others have also pointed out):

The only solution is welding the tab on the bolt carrier, and yes, that would be the only thing that would have to be changed if the problem you're having is an occasional failure to #### the trigger.

i hope it works but i think the US VZ has a different set up .

i recall a pic that obiwan posted and his trigger has a safety sear.

obiwan, could you post a pic of your trigger?
