VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

    Votes: 1,507 70.4%
  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

    Votes: 407 19.0%
  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

    Votes: 166 7.7%
  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

I'm also very interested in the rail. It obviously replaces the upper handguard, but is it a solid mount ?

Thanks

MA has a cool 58.

light is not mine. Mount is done from metal on base of original upper handguard, wooden part was removed, upper rail is done to "see-through" for mechanical sights.
According to my last info - december 2005 - the mount is no more in production - producer retired.
The price was cca. 100 USD /if used average exchange ratio/.
My mount was never used on gun, because it was not accepted in our competition of retired soldiers / the mil. service was here since 2005 obligatory for everyone for some period, max. 2 years/.

tape?

Scarecrow said:
I see you have put tape to remove the wobble.

it was teflon tape - absolutely useless. I was advised by users of that mount to use pliers to make the ends closer and other is useless.

Before some time I have read in one book /reprinted original manual for Vz. 58/ that Vz.58 with standard Czechoslovak army ammo was zeored when 4 from 5 shots were in the circle of diameter 6 cm on 100 m and 5th was not more than 10 cm from the center of circle /6 cm - I think is cca. 2 - 2,5 MOA/.
But maybe numbers are a bit different - will try to get the book again and will edit my potential mistake.
Therefore there is in fact useless riflescope and red dot usually has the point larger than 2 MOA /OKO offers from 4 to 8 MOA/ - the gun is not sniper rifle.

WOW. I joined this forum just to see this thread. The pictures
really made me homesick but were awesome. Thanks Deckard.
Enjoy these guns boys. I'll be shooting one in less than 2 weeks.

Take care guys.

mount

I will try to "make" former producer of above mentioned mount to renew production or to pass it to another person.
If I will be successfull it will be published here in forum with actual info.

In my opinion sniper rifle is sub MOA.
Vz. 58 is 2 MOA with standard czechoslovak ammo /there was not zeroing with benchrest tripod in above mentioned army manual/, maybe with better ammo and benchrest tripod and riflescope it is better.

Hi guys....this is one monster of a thread. I noticed that some of you are currently in Afghanistan...Kevin B?
Would you be able to tell me how the VZ 58 ranks out there in terms of reliability against the AK with all that loose sand flying around?
Deckard...great pics..keep them coming...i noticed that you found some of the Czechoslovakian army pics when it was still under communist regime in some earlier pages (the cammo with vertical lines).
