My 858-2 got the gremlin at 1200 rounds. Wolverine fixed it and I've put another 1000 rounds through it without an issue.

Wow. It's a small sample but gremlin rate is between 20-40% for all models.

This brings me to believe one of two things;

(1) the gremilin is inherant to the design...

(2) the rifles in the Canadian market were assembled with parts KNOWING that those parts cause the gremlin...

Other guys will comment on this, and I'd like to hear if the gremilin is discussed in any of the military literature or sporting literature of OTHER countries... If there is NO discussion of the gremilin in those two communities, then how is it that Canada is the "exception" to the flawless functioning firearms used elsewhere?

Cheers
Jay

neither 1 & 2 . i believe the gremlin was cause by the removal of the safety sear , the safety sear are used for FA .

the US had the VZ for only a little over a year ago (maybe learnt from us) and they have a tab carrier that seams to resolve the issue but more time are needed to be sure.

I have a CZ-858-T2 with only about 200 rounds through it, and it's had the Gremlin from the get go. Wolverine very graciously, not to mention very rapidly, mailed me a replacement carrier and disconnecter. I don't know if it's fixed now, because I just haven't had the time to try it.

I believe that the Gremlin in mine occurred only when I squeezed the trigger ever so slowly, that it just wasn't far enough backwards after tripping the sear, for the disconnecter to work properly.

I say this because every time I pulled the trigger smartly, it would just trip the sear and continue backwards far enough for the disconnecter to do its job. So I never experienced the Gremlin when double tapping, only when deliberately bench-resting the rifle. This is also why I believe some have reported curing the Gremlin by increasing (bending upwards) the sear spring, thereby increasing the trigger pull weight. This simply causes the trigger to snap backwards past a critical point, after tripping the sear, every time you fire the rifle allowing the disconnecter to work properly. So I not only swapped the parts that Wolverine sent me, but also increased the trigger pull a little. We’ll see if that does the trick, if I ever get to try it.

This is such a silly problem, though! It's so easy to fix that I just don't get why CZ hasn't started modifying the carriers themselves to avoid it. Just weld a darn tab, like they do in the US, to allow the disconnecter the little extra time it needs to do its job.

Oh well, if the replacement carrier and disconnecter don't work out, I'll just have that tab welded myself. I won't stand not using such a nice rifle for such a silly problem. ;)

I have an 858-2. Got the gremlin at about 1100 rds. Turned out to be caused by the bushing on the sear pin getting loose. I shimmed it with brass cut from a 9mm casing and now it works like new.

92 owners reported so far and it looks like 31.5% got the gremlin.

thats quite a bit higher than i thought .

You know what annoys the p*ss out of me? That the same rifle is called forty different things, depending which dealer sells it.

40? i missed 25 some how? :D

some people like complicated but not me , i like simply , i call them what ever the dealers call them so there is no confusion when ever i order from them .

from wolverine , cz858 t-2 and cz858-4v
from marstar , vz58S and vz58L , thats it for now .

ofcos this doesnt include the new furniture model and krink/defender . :)

My 1st vz58 one of the 1st in the country from marstar would not eject it would stove pipe on everything except norinco silverbox

I sent it back and marstar could not fix it so they replaced it

but the replacemnt one has 3500 rnds and not one failure

I just figured it was time to resurrect the poll.
My new 858 tac 2 bolt assembly is going to be sent to NEA for the tab welding in short order.
The gremlin usually only shows up off the bench when I'm babying the trigger.

I dont see how these rifles are worth the $699 when so many are produced that have this flaw.. The Gremlin made itself apparent the very first time I took my rifle out, I'll be getting a tabbed carrier soon, but its a shame this issue wasn't fixed long before they started hitting the Canadian market.

Yep, it's beyond belief that the importers (past and present) have never taken any steps to correct this. At least the new CSA guns are coming in tabbed.

Given that the mod costs so little to do, the rifle is still well-worth the asking price. It shouldn't be the customer fixing it, though.

I answered no, but there's a catch. I've fired maybe 600-700 rounds with friends and relatives, no gremlin. I handed it to a stranger at the range, and he had the gremlin everytime!?! He handed it to me, and everytime it worked fine!?! What the heck? I can only assume he was doing something different with his trigger pull, maybe creeping it really slow or ?? It's never done it for anyone else, so I haven't had anything done.
