Were any of these imported to Canada? Have you fired and/or owned one? What was good/bad about it? Have you seen any for sale? At what price?

I got one right here on the EE, so they are around - keep your eyes open - there was a good number imported and they come up every now and again.

I went to look up past auction prices for you and it turns out there's one available for bidding in the Landsborough auction ending May 30 ;) If you want to bid, remember you will have to pay a commission to the auction as well as sales taxes for your province of residence if you win.

Latest gun to sell at a Canadian auction went for 925 + commission + taxes + shipping if not picked up - seems rather steep to me, but if that's what someone is willing to pay...

There were a lot of stripped frames being auctioned this year, very cheaply and you could source a parts kit from the US if t's just to have a shooter. I would not be surprised to see a few more at the next one. I'm not sure it would represent significant savings given the exchange rate, so do your research.

You can also get a complete gun in the US, just remember that theirs are all import-marked which lowers collectability. And, again, the exchange rate sucks.

Good luck!

Thank you al, especially Kotkotofeich. I will at least check out that auction but it sounds like they'll be out of my price range. I've come into some ammo and that would be the gun I'd be most interested in trying it in. I suppose I'll have to think about a TT-33 or selling/trading the ammo.

I sold one a few months ago on CGN or I cant remember for 650 or 700. Maybe I let it go to cheap? It was a very nice condition CAI US import that was then imported into Canada. Had the holster, cleaning rod and three magazines. I love that round, the lock up mechanism is cool. The sights are bad. The heel release is far from ideal. I like it a lot better than a TT but they are supposedly a lot stronger gun. Supposedly you are not supposed to fire a lot of the 7.62x25 hot subgun ammo... too hard on these guns. Just regular S and B commercial non corrosive launches pretty impressive fireballs from that gun.

I paid less than 600 for mine just under two years ago, seems that they went up quite a bit recently.

Lots of arguments on the subject of CZ vs TT, of course, but I also believe the side that says the chamber on the cz is weaker - less metal, many more reports of blown up barrels.

Many years ago century International brought some in, cheap at that time, not much interest as most guys did not know anything about the ammo.
A crystal ball would be a great thing.

Interesting bit of NFA history with the '52. The president (at the time) of the NFA used one of these pistols to put a hole through the wall of his apartment into his neighbor's unit, after coming home from the range. Won an acquittal by convincing the judge that these pistols have a propensity for unintended discharge.

One source I read says they were replaced in the early 1980s by a Makarov and sold surplus, many to the U.S.A. civilian market, so they have been in the wild for many years, there won't be a reliable source, just individual ones being sold from time to time.

I had one for awhile. They have a cast firing pin and the lack of a slide release. They can be a fire feather with Czech surplus ammo. I had a noticeable hang fire which was a little unnerving. The makarov dot com website in the states sold parts for them. The grips were junk and I would consider the experience of shooting it as intense and a bit of a roll of the dice in terms of it breaking.
I paid about $300 for it along with a nearly full crate of ammo. I would not pay anywhere near $900 unless it had significant upgrades.

I bought one from Century Arms about 25 years ago. It had been converted to 9mm and was a total "jam-o-matic" I don't think I was able to ever fire off a whole magazine without a stoppage. Also firing pins are very weak and will break from dry firing.

Ok.... My desire is lessening and my bank account is becoming happier.. lol

Don't know how many came into Canada, but I bought one off a friend in 2004 for $300.00. Mint condition and shoots very well. Also got some ammo off my friend that is surplus and Head Stamped 1953 in 8 round Stripper Clips. And it's hot as hell. It's super strong, using a roller lock mechanism similar to a MG42 Machine Gun and it's very easy to disassemble.

The grips were junk, so I changed mine for a wraparound rubber type.

I have one, bought it locally from an older collector.
Upgrading the firing pin is a must I was told so I did it, also was warned to not use the safety de-#### as it can set off a round with the modern firing pins.... tested it with a pencil down the barrel and it left enough of a mark for me to head that warning.

Easy to clean and very accurate! Recoil is not bad but you can tell those rounds are moving fast with the snap as it fires!
I would recommend it to anyone who has the chance to buy one, really cool looking and functioning pistol.

I will post a video on instagram tomorrow sometime of it and some photos in the future! @kathrynelizabeth11

Pretty much what I found also.

Worked very well with the right ammo, but the sites left something to be desired, small and hard to pick up.

I used mine on and off for years and had no issues.

I know about 2 to 4 years ago. I paid about 475$ for mine. But could have just been me getting a deal. Guy offered one for like 650$. I declined the offer, being that I didn't want to pay that much, and I was just looking for a shooter.

I only put 70rds thru it, and then sold it. Being I needed money.
